Under the Dome Read-Along Starts Today! #DomeAlong

It is finally here! Today is day one of the Under the Dome read-along, and I could not be more excited (and slightly intimidated, this book is a brick). If you’ve been on the fence, this is your sign. Grab your copy, grab a beverage, and let’s tackle Chester’s Mill together.

The Plan

We’re splitting Under the Dome into eight weekly chunks, with discussion posts going up every Monday morning. Each week I’ll post:

If you fall behind, that’s totally fine. Hop in whenever. Discussion threads stay open the whole way through.

This Week’s Reading

Chapters 1 through 12, roughly the first 130 pages. We meet Chester’s Mill, we meet the Dome, we meet our absolutely enormous cast (Stephen King has never met a side character he didn’t want to give a paragraph of backstory to). By the end of this section you’ll know who Big Jim Rennie is and you’ll already be hate-reading him, which I think is the intent.

Hashtag and How to Follow Along

We’re using #DomeAlong on Twitter and Instagram. Tag your posts so we can all find each other. If you have a blog and want to post your own weekly recaps, drop the link in the comments and I’ll round them up in each week’s post.

A Few Pep Talk Notes

This book is long. Almost 1,100 pages in the hardcover. The first hundred pages are heavy on character introductions, and it can feel like a lot before the momentum kicks in. Trust the process. King’s pacing rewards patience. By week three we’ll be in deep and you won’t be able to put it down.

Who else is starting today? Drop a hello in the comments, tell me what edition you’re reading (paperback, e-book, audio?), and let’s do this. See you Monday.
