First Thought when Finished: After 7 hrs and 55 min I just was not invested enough in The Dead Lands by Benjamin Percy to finish. That made me sad 🙁

Why did I DNF? Red Hill is going to work for other people very well but I was just not connecting with the story (or characters). I felt that I gave Red Hill a pretty good whirl (50%) but at that point I just had to call it a wash. Why didn’t I connect with the characters? I felt the adults were a little too cardboard and when they did get emotional it felt forced.

Story Thoughts: OMG! This is exactly the kind of story that keeps me up at night! A Plague–it is possible!People with natural immunities? TOTALLY going to happen. How those people act, carry forward, recreate society, and react to each other is where the real story lies. How does one rise from the ashes of the world that they knew and thrive in the world that now is?
