Quick Thoughts: This is a prequel to The Whistler which came out last year. I admit I love John Grisham’s earlier stuff but the new stuff has been hit/miss so I skipped The Whistler. Now I am going to pick it up. This reminded me a lot of his old style. I am hoping the main book holds up.

Audio Thoughts:

Narrated By Mark Deakins / Length: 54 mins

This isn’t my first time to listen to Mark (he also did The Maze Runner) but this was a very different type of narration. I really think he did a good job but this was too short to tell if the narration fit. There just wasn’t enough characters or story for me to say whether I would consider this a must listen. He does The Whistler though so I will let you know!!!

  1. I picked up the Whistler this winter and I really enjoyed it. It was the first time I had read Grisham in years. I didn’t know this existed. Now I want to read it. I hope you like the Whistler.

  2. Great news! Like you, I’m a fan of his earlier stuff and find the later books “meh.” I’ve got both on audio (eternal optimist with this author) so I’ll give it a shot.

    Thanks for the review!

    • I always hope they will be old school. I haven’t thought so the last few years πŸ™ πŸ™ This was the closest. I will try the main book now.
