Perdita, the widowed Duchess of Ormond, keeps a dangerous secret—the truth of how her brutish husband died. But a mysterious avenger seems to know it, too, and when anonymous threats turn into public attacks, there’s only one friend she can turn to for help—her husband’s former secretary, Lord Archer Lisle. The man who witnessed her every heartache. The kind of man whose love she can only dream of…
Will His Love Save Her?
The youngest of the Duke of Pemberton’s five sons, Lord Archer Lisle is used to waiting his turn. For years, he could only stand by, seething, as Perdita suffered at the hands of her husband, but now she’s under threat from another source—one who will stop at nothing to make her pay for the late duke’s death. But the good-natured Archer can be dangerous when crossed—and he’ll do anything to keep the woman he’s adored for so long safe in his arms…

First Thought when Finished: Why Lords Lose Their Hearts by Manda Collins was my first book by the author but it won’t be my last (especially after the end–now I NEED to get the first two). This was a great combination of action, suspense, love, and intriguing characters. I really loved the friendship between the women and what they would do for each other. Gotta love strong women! Overall, a great friends to lovers romance!
Audio Thoughts:
Narrated by: Anne Flosnik /Length: 7 hrs and 54 mins
It is no secret that Anne is one of my favorite narrators and the reason I picked up this book. She totally delivered and felt she was a terrific fit for these characters! I will be getting the other two on audio too!

Friends to Lovers trope is one of the best. I do love this book, it had so many fun qualities to the story.
Great review Felicia, I think I have one of her books on my shelves …
I would enjoy the strong friendships among the female characters. I haven’t listened to this narrator before either, so I need to check her out.
Love when a story pulls you in and then you find the author has *more* books for you to enjoy!
I know and now to get my hands on those books. Oh library where are you 🙂
Oh, I love friends to lovers historicals. This sounds like a great one, especially with suspense! I’ll have to check it out.
This one was really good. It was the last in the series but I didn’t feel lost reading it (in fact I didn’t know it was the last until 3/4 of the way through).
Oh, that’s awesome! Sometimes I feel like I can’t even read a book because I know it’s so far along in a series or even the last book and I end up not having time to read the earlier ones. Glad to know this one is easy to follow!
Sounds like it must have been a great read! 🙂
It was really good. I was sad that I found out I started at the end of the series LOL
