Once, New York P.I. Shiarra Waynest’s most pressing problem was keeping her agency afloat. Now she’s dealing with two dangerous, seductive vampires who have been enemies for centuries. The only thing Max Carlyle and Alec Royce agree on is that they both want Shia–for very different reasons.

Max is determined to destroy Shia for killing his progeny, while Royce’s interest is a lot more personal. That’s not sitting well with Shia’s werewolf boyfriend, Chaz. As the feud between Max and Royce gets ever more deadly, a powerful vampire-hunting faction is urging Shia to join their side. Shia has always believed vamps were the bad guys, but she’s discovering unexpected shades of grey that are about to redefine her friends, her loyalties–and even her desires…

First thought when finished: The ending was fast paced, super fun, and I am glad that I have book 3 ready to go!

What I Loved: I love when an author builds on the book before by flushing out her characters a little more. Jess does a good job of not overwhelming you with a recap from the last book (in UF this tends to be a problem) but giving you a sense of the characters if you start here. I love that we learn more about Royce, see the White Hats, and learn more Shia. It isn’t an info dump but more of a learn more as they learn more about each other kind of thing. The pacing at the end was fast/furious but it worked awesome for the story.

What I Liked: The side characters and the bad guy were fantastically written in this story. There are some I want to know more about (mouse) and I am hoping that one grows on me (elf). I have faith though that these new characters will be flushed out more in the books to come.

What made me go huh? Not enough of Chaz! I say that because I want to like him but so far to me he is an arrogant pain in the neck. I am usually team werewolf so I want him to sweep me off my feet. Hasn’t happened yet but that is just a personal thing LOL Vampire lovers are probably swooning over Royce.

Final Thought: Book 3 is in my hands and going to be started very soon!

    • Gosh this book was all Royce all the time. With a bad vampire named Max. I kept thinking this one is right up Missie’s alley! 🙂 I am even leaning toward team Vampire in this series right now LOL

  1. oh this book sounds like so much fun! i haven’t heard about this series yet, but i may just have to pick it up now from the way you’re talking about it. i hope book three is as good as this one!

  2. Well, yay for not so much of an info-dump! I do agree, that can be a problem in some UFs (though understandable…kind of like the recap at the beginning of True Blood). I’ve got to get on this series!

    • Yep it wasn’t so bad in this book now book 3 might have more. I agree they kind of have too and I only notice it when I read back to back LOL Otherwise I am all for it because I forget things (Old Age Syndrome LOL)

  3. Glad you’re liking the series. I’ve heard good things about it but I’m having a hard time getting past the cheesy covers. I swear one day I’ll get over it and read this seris!!

    • I am not a fan of the first few covers (I think book 4’s is pretty good)! Shai is a PI so I just want to warn you about that 🙂 The series is fun though and I am enjoying it!

  4. This must be a good series as you are writing it high. As I said I know I will be kicking myself when I read it and find out what I am missing. I just loaded book 3 into Friday Forecast.

    • I am enjoying it! I think if you are a fan of Urban Fantasy and spirited characters you will like it. She is not always doing the right thing (insert dumb heroin move) but I have given up on finding an urban fantasy where they don’t pull at least one palm to forehead move LOL
