By day, Mercy is a car mechanic in the sprawling Tri-Cities of Eastern Washington. By night, she explores her preternatural side. As a shapeshifter with some unique talents, Mercy has often found herself having to maintain a tenuous harmony between the human and the not so human. This time she may get more than she bargained for.

Marsilia, the local Vampire Queen, has learned that Mercy crossed her by slaying a member of her clan—and she’s out for blood. But since Mercy is protected from direct reprisal by the werewolf pack (and her close relationship with its sexy Alpha), it won’t be Mercy’s blood Marsilia is after.

It’ll be her friends

First thought when Finished: I am a full-on Mercy Thompson fan!

What I Loved: I loved that Patricia Briggs did not ignore the ending of the last book! There are some big things that Mercy needs to work through and in typical Mercy fashion they will be done in her way. I think how Patricia Briggs has Mercy get away from the city is very well done. It definitely makes her confront the things that happened to her but also gave Mercy a chance to focus on something else. Plus, anything to see more Stefan is always a “love” in my world! Also, none of the side stories slipped either. They were brilliantly moved a long and deepened just a bit!

What I Liked: Bran, Bran, Bran! So there is never enough Bran and I don’t think I will be happy till we get a Bran book. While I loved him in Cry Wolf and love seeing him scattered in this series–there is just not enough. That is just a personal preference though LOL

What made me go huh?: Not much really other than a few spoiler type of things I will leave out. I really want Vampire Queen to get B*tch Slapped in a bad way!

Final Thought: I really want to grab book 5 and read it right now. I am trying to exercise a little will power though. It probably won’t work :)

I love Bran also, it would be great to see a book of his own definitely. I love Stefan also…more of him would be great. Have you gotten caught up on the series yet?

The series really stays being so good! I am also very anxious about how the thing that happened in Charles And Anna’s book, will affect Mercy’s world!

Omg I know I know! BRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN! I need a book with him, and not one where he has that bitchy wife

  4. Stop eet! You are making me want to dive back into this series. I need to so get back to them. In fact, I really want to reread the ones I’ve read and then read on!

This was definitely scary, right? That scary vamp and the little boy. Loved Stefan in this one. Also loved how the wolves took care of him. Also glad the oak man got free. Just wait the walking stick keeps popping up :)

I finally bought River Marked a few months back when the ebook price went down after the paperback release, but I haven’t read it yet. I kind of want to go back and re-read them all, because Patricia Briggs really does a great job of presenting a whole through-line for the story. When I have to wait months or years between books I feel like I lose some of what’s happened because my scatterbrain forgets what happened.

I don’t feel as much fondness for Bran – but I also haven’t read Cry Wolf or any of that side series yet. Do you recommend?

    • There is a lot more of Bran in the other series. I loved Cry Wolf (only one I have read) before starting the Mercy series so I felt like I knew him better than if you start with the Mercy series.

He is a major player over there!

  7. Dude not cool. You can’t just label it outstanding!! I MAKE ME WANT TO READ THEM SO BAAAAAD ;)
I will catch up with you on this series someday. You just wait :D

WOO HOO!!! Another hardcore Mercy fan:) And how amazing is Bran? I would like a whole spinoff series with him please! Have you read her Alpha and Omega series with Sam’s brother Charles? Bran is a major player in those books and I love it:)
