More Information:Old habits die hard for assassins. And I plan on murdering someone before the night is through. Killing used to be my regular gig, after all. Gin Blanco, aka the Spider, assassin-for-hire. And I was very, very good at it. Now, I’m ready to make the one hit that truly matters: Mab Monroe, the dangerous Fire elemental who murdered my family when I was thirteen. Oh, I don’t think the mission will be easy, but turns out it’s a bit more problematic than expected. The bitch knows I’m coming for her. So now I’m up against the army of lethal bounty hunters Mab hired to track me down. She also put a price on my baby sister’s head. Keeping Bria safe is my first priority. Taking Mab out is a close second. Good thing I’ve got my powerful Ice and Stone magic—and my irresistible lover, Owen Grayson—to watch my back. This battle has been years in the making, and there’s a good chance I won’t survive. But if I’m going down, then Mab’s coming with me . . . no matter what I have to do to make that happen.

First thought when finished: The Spider showed a younger Gin and Fletcher. It was nice to see Gin’s beginnings even if she wasn’t nearly as likable or smart as she is older!
Overall Thoughts: I will admit that while I loved getting to know Fletcher while he was alive that I was often distracted by how “unfocused” Gin was at times. This is actually brilliant of Jennifer Estep as Gin was just becoming The Spider but it was hard, as a reader, for me to separate the Gin I love from the younger version. Though I think seeing a younger Finn, Rosalyn, Owen, and everyone else was delightful. They didn’t have huge parts so it was easy for me to see sparkles of who they are to become but be OK with their younger selves. I think my problem with Gin came from how long it took her to “figure” out the case. Especially since I felt that the bad guy was a little more obvious this time around. However, I had a good time listening to The Spider and the time spent with Fletcher were my absolute favorite scenes in the story!

Lauren Fortgang nails Gin and crew! This is a must get in audiobook series for me!

Hmmm…seems weird to be going back in time at this late date, but I’m game.
It was difficult to see Gin so not herself but I also enjoyed it because, well, she couldn’t have been so awesome when first starting out, right? Plus, Finn and Fletcher! Loved both of them in this.
Jennifer Estep, yet another author on my to-read list! I must say I am totally addicted to Audio books now… thanks to you!! *Tee hee* Great review Felicia!!
I love it when an author takes you back to who the characters were when they were younger!!
PS totally wish you could send some audio’s my way.. if only they were as easy to share as paperbacks! and of course it would help if we lived on the same continent 🙂
It made sense to me why it took her longer b/c of her inexperience and she thought she was in love-ish. 🙂 Still, I know what you mean. 🙂 Loved this one too.
This was my least favorite book in the series. IMO this one would have worked better as a novella than a full-length book.
OMG! Is this book #10 already? If I don’t hurry up and catch up, I’m afraid It’s going to get the point when I never will 🙁 It used to be so much easier when we had to wait for the audios..LOL
I already have like five books waiting on my pnone, but I know I need to add the next book to the list soon. I know I’m missing out!
This was not my favorite in this series, mostly because of this, she’s too naive for someone that had already suffered so much in life.
I liked seeing everyone again, but the book was a little off for me.
Exactly! I agree with you and Felicia. It was just too much. She was too naive, too uncertain, too stupid and it distracted me. I get that she had to grow and in this, Ms. Estep does a great job giving us the younger Gin. I was also a little ticked at some of the peeps she ran into back then. And she’s just NOW realizing it? But once Gin got her game on, the story rocked!
Interesting that Estep takes this back in time so far into the series. I am starting this series without fail this year!
