Review: The Hatching by Ezekiel BooneThe Hatching by Ezekiel Boone

Date Read: June 2016

“An apocalyptic extravaganza of doom and heroism…addictive.” —Publishers Weekly

“It’s been too long since someone reminded us that spiders are not just to be feared, but also may well spell doom for mankind. Fortunately, Ezekiel Boone has upped the ante on arachnophobia. This is a fresh take on classic horror, thoroughly enjoyable and guaranteed to leave your skin crawling.” —Michael Koryta, New York Times bestselling author of Those Who Wish Me Dead

An astonishingly inventive and terrifying debut novel about the emergence of an ancient species, dormant for over a thousand years, and now on the march.

Deep in the jungle of Peru, where so much remains unknown, a black, skittering mass devours an American tourist whole. Thousands of miles away, an FBI agent investigates a fatal plane crash in Minneapolis and makes a gruesome discovery. Unusual seismic patterns register in a Kanpur, India earthquake lab, confounding the scientists there. During the same week, the Chinese government “accidentally” drops a nuclear bomb in an isolated region of its own country. As these incidents begin to sweep the globe, a mysterious package from South America arrives at a Washington, D.C. laboratory. Something wants out.

The world is on the brink of an apocalyptic disaster. An ancient species, long dormant, is now very much awake.

Tweet (longer) Length Review: The Hatching was creepy crawly twisty fun that I don’t recommend reading before bed (unless you don’t need a full night of rest)! It is a little horror, little outbreak, and whole lot of “OMG please say NOTHING is crawling on me”. SPIDER APOCALYPSE is coming at ya!

PS: I really want to listen to this on Audio! I bet it brings the story alive!

PSS: Totally Listened to the Audio)

Audio Thoughts:

Narrated By George Newbern / Length: 8 hrs and 46 mins

George really brought this alive! I would even bump my rating up to 4.25 because he made me like the characters slightly more. This was a great audio match!

  1. Sounds like a great story and right up my alley. I haven’t listened to George Newbern, but he is the narrator. I’ll have to see if my library has it on audio.

    • It was more thriller than horror. Actually I would say it was more Post-Apocalyptic (granted different type of Apocalypse) than horror.

  2. I want to read/listen to this but I don’t want to become paranoid that things are crawling on me. Even though your review is short I think you hit on everything that a reader will need to know if they’ll want to read this or not. The good thing is that you didn’t put spiders in your review like Kim did.

    • Just don’t read/listen to it at night. I requested it on audio so we will see if my rating goes up. I saw her spiders–made me shiver 🙂

    • You should check your library. These are not run of your mill spiders so I don’t think your arachnophobia will get wiggy. That being said, it is creepy crawly LOL
