Speed Date Review

My Audio Thoughts are exactly the same for both of these books! I had the same problems with both books.  None of my issues had to do with the narrator.

3rd Degree (Women's Murder Club, #3)3rd Degree by James Patterson

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Listened for Fun (Audible)
Overall Rating: 4.00
Story Rating: 4.00
Character Rating: 4.00

Audio Rating: 3.00 (not part of the overall rating)

First Thought When Finished: Holy emotional roller coaster batman! This one hit close to the heart!

Speed Date Review:

First Date: 3rd degree starts with the steady rhythm of Lindsey Boxer at work. We are dragged back into the gals world and really hooked when a major emotional bomb is dropped by one of the members. There really is no way we can’t continue on after that!

Second Date: The gals keep us hooked as they navigate the emotional ups and downs of the case and the personal issues. They really band together and show what this club is made of! This even becomes more evident when they must defend one of their own.

Third Date: 3rd Degree made me cry and want to pull the gals into a warm embrace. There is nothing like an emotional punch to the stomach to make you want to get the bad guy. This ending just held more oomph for me and really signed off strong!

Audio Thoughts:

Narrated by Carolyn McCormick

These are relatively quick listens. Carolyn does an excellent job with voices, pacing, and emotion. I really enjoy her narration. However, the sound effects are HORRID and way overdone. Many times the distracting music tracks pulled me out of the story. In some cases, it even drowned out the narrator. I just was not a fan! I keep sticking with the audio hoping that these will eventually go away. We will see!

4th of July (Women's Murder Club, #4)4th of July by James Patterson

Overall Rating: 3.75
Story Rating: 3.50
Character Rating: 4.00

First Thought When Finished: I love the new member of the team but the story was a little all over the place!

Speed Date Review:

First Date: 4th of July started with a bang! We hit it off right from the beginning with a fast and furious pace. It worked so well until we got drug to court. At that point, our mutual love fest hit a snag!

Second Date: We got a new member to the Murder Club! She is a perfect fit into this crafty group of women. It is too bad that her part was highlighted with a bit of drama that I think was overdone. I did love her closing statement though. There was just to much going on between the court drama and the secondary case that Lindsey is involved with. Something had to give and unfortunately that was rushed storytelling and over the top dramatics.

Third Date: The secondary case comes to a fast and furious end. There were some twists and turns that hooked me back into the story the last few chapters. With this my love affair is reignited and I am reminded of why I fell in love with the first place. The Murder Club and I will be spending time together in the future. I need to know more about them!

I have a love/hate relationship with the Women’s Murder Club. The last few have been mediocre but I still continue with the series. I am interested to see what happens in the 12th book which will be out later this year. 🙂 Can’t wait to see what you think of the rest of the series!

Oh sound effects in audio book readings. There are only a few reasons to have them and they should always be minimal. Hm… looks like I do need to pick up one of his adult books. Now these sound like ones I’d enjoy so much more than the YA I read.

Can you believe I’ve never read anything by James Patterson? Ridiculous. It seems like the books in this series all end really strong, and that’s always a good thing. I love a good emotional punch to the gut!

LOVE the Speed Date icon! It’s so cute — computer love. Mmm-wah! *throws kisses*

I don’t generally read James Patterson because he irritates me (partly, it’s jealousy but I hate that he puts his name on a thousand books every year and doesn’t write but maybe one of them. Author farmer!). That being ranted, I have read a couple from this series (the first two, I think), and enjoyed the camaraderie of the women. I’d hang out with them!
