Chances Are by Christy Reece
Date Read: May 2013
Genre: Romance, Suspense
She is his dream come true. He is her nightmare.
Angela Delvecchio has always dreamed of being an LCR field operative. As LCR’s main researcher, she’s helped rescue victims, but always from the sidelines. Until now. Last Chance Rescue has been asked to assist the authorities in apprehending a serial killer terrorizing London. Angela knows this is her time and her mission.
After the murder of his wife, Jake Mallory stopped believing in anything good. Now, as an operative for Last Chance Rescue, he’s found a new purpose but he’ll never let his guard down again. The beautiful and much too vulnerable Angela is a temptation like no other—one he dare not take. Hearing that she’s going to be an operative is a surprise, but Jake is stunned to learn her first assignment will be to bait and trap the Red Rose killer. Assigned to be her partner, Jake knows he wouldn’t have it any other way. He failed the last woman he cared about…he won’t fail Angela.
Angela thought going undercover as an exotic dancer would be the toughest part of the job, and Jake thought keeping his hands off his partner would be his biggest challenge. They were both wrong. Taught to expect the unexpected, Angela faces events she never anticipated and Jake must allow the unthinkable. Now it’s a fight for survival because evil has more than one face and to stay alive, death may be the only option.

First Thought When Finished: Oh I loved being back in the world of Last Chance Rescue and Chances Are totally delivered!
Story Thoughts: LCR is one of my favorite “worlds” to visit and it does feel like another place/time even though it is now! I love the idea that there are people risking their lives to save the women/children of the world that go missing. This was a bit different from the rest of the series, as they were tracking a killer. It was an interesting change of pace and overall it was an enjoyable ride. I was a little frustrated with the ending of the book (Epilogue), it felt like it just dropped off. That might have been Christy’s evil plan though but it did make me wish for just a few more pages.
Character Thoughts: I have adored Angela from the beginning and was always hoping we would learn more about her. She is spunky, smart, and hard to put a finger on. It was nice getting to learn about her history, wants/needs, and how she ended up at LCR. She did not disappoint. I also really liked Jake for Angela. He had his own issues but he was strong enough for Angela. I always thought she deserved a very special guy and Jake stepped up to the plate. Seeing all the other LCR Alums (and the ones I am hoping are coming up) was great. For a fan of the series, this hit all the right character notes.
Final Thoughts: I hope Christy continues to publish stories from this world. I adore it!
