Review: Sebring by Kristen AshleySebring by Kristen Ashley

Date Read: February 2016

Nick Sebring has issues. Born feeling like an outsider in his own family, growing up under the shadow of a brother who could do anything, Nick isn’t that great of a guy. But when this culminates with Nick lashing out to hurt his brother through the woman he loves, Nick turns inward and makes some decisions about the man he intends to be.

And as he does this, he falls in love and truly learns the man that he’s grown to be.

When his love is murdered right before Nick’s eyes, Nick knows he has to avenge her. He knows how he’s going to avenge her. And he has no qualms using Olivia Shade to exact that vengeance.

Olivia Shade has grown up on the outside of her family too. Her problem is that they don’t want her outside. They want her all the way in, right under their thumbs. She pays the price for seeking escape and learns her lesson—she’ll never see a dawn where she wakes up free.
Then she meets Nick Sebring, and even as she fights it, the hope that died years ago starts to blossom. She can find love. She can have a man of her own. She can be happy. She can be free.

Olivia hopes while Nick schemes.

However, as Nick peels back the layers of all that is Olivia Shade, he finds something surprising. He understands its fragility. He falls in love with its beauty. He seeks to protect it.

But he forgets to protect his Livvie from one thing: Nick Sebring.

First Thought when Finished: I thought Sebring was a good conclusion to the Unfinished Hero series. It really brought everything full circle!

Quick Thoughts: The Unfinished Hero series falls somewhere in the middle (on my like scale) in the connected series (Chaos, Rock Chick, Colorado Mountain, The Burg, Mystery Men) because the smexy is not up my alley. The characters though are very much well done. I think, like most everybody, that Sebring is one of those stories that we very much wanted because who doesn’t love a true “turn around” story. I think Kristen delivered even though I didn’t end up loving him as much as I wanted too. Olivia though broke my heart! OMG that girl had gone through so much! So the spoiler (and it is all about the last 3 chapters so truly a spoiler) will tell you why this wasn’t higher even though it was still well liked by me…

Now I need more Chaos and Colorado Mountain….

    • This is her BDSM series. She delves deep into the lifestyle. That isn’t my normal cup of tea. I have to be in the mood for it. There is nothing wrong with it but I just wasn’t in the mood for that style.

  1. Hmm… It is a bit of a let down the whole situation with Olvia, your favorite character. I wonder why the author decided to make it all so difficult?

    • She does that occasionally. I have a love/annoyed relationship with her books. They are like crack so I will read them all but I don’t always like where a story goes LOL

  2. I still have to read this, and I think the reason I haven’t yet is because I can’t get over all that Nick did in the previous books. I know he sort of redeemed himself in Deacon (I think it was that book) but I still want Knight to beat the crap out of him.

    • There is about a 2 year time difference between Deacon and this one so that part was easier to take. He did a few more things to prove that he really was a new guy.

  3. Nikki H

I started with Mystery Man (I LOVED it), so I was out of order, too. Sebring is on my TBR, but I can’t decide if I am going to save it for a road trip or bite the bullet. I just finished Deacon about 2 weeks ago 😉 after I did a quick reread of Knight and Raid. For sure, KA is an autobuy for me and I even have a couple in paperback, too. Great review. And of course, I read the spoiler.

    • LOL Total auto-buy for me too cause even when she annoys me I overall can’t put the darn books down. This has got a time jump (I want to say two years) so you can wait till your trip 🙂

  4. I’m behind on this series Felicia! I’ve read Knight and Raid but need to read all the others. I like KA best when I binge read, then all the over the top alpha nonsense just sucks me in and I can’t stop flipping the pages:) Looking forward to Creed, Deacon and Sebring!

    • That is how I like her. I spent the last 6 months of last year reading almost everything. I have save Fantasyland and Vampires for this summer to binge 🙂

  5. So do you not like sexy reads in general or are you tired of it? I’m the latter with The exception of Kate Meader. She reinvented the wheel for me… KAshley I have to try. I think of all her series, Rock Chick is my best fit

    • To be honest, I have to really be in the mood for Out of the Box sexy reads. I do like them but in very small doses. Mostly because most of the ones I have read are mostly that and very little story. That being said, Exit to Eden is one of my favorite books ever but it had a great balance between the two.

Though I should add that most of KA’s series are not like this series. This is her extreme series the rest are romantic suspense with good doses of smex. That being said, that is pretty typical these days and that I can read all day long.

  6. I’m so happy to have found this author. You say this falls in the middle somewhere. I’ve got Colorado Mountain, Rock Chick, then Mystery Men lined up, in that order. Do I have it right? Should this one come after Mystery Men?

    • Yes those you have in order though the Burg should come while you are reading CM and RC–the guys from this series are introduced in RC but probably shouldn’t be read till you start Chaos after MM. She spans so many years in the series so I went off the list on her site once I stopped reading them totally out of order (which BTW I totally did for like the first 6 books I read because I started with Chaos LOL),
