Original Thoughts: March 18, 2013
Overall Rating: 3.75
Story Rating: 3.50
Character Rating: 4.00

Audio Rating: 4.00 (not part of the overall rating)

NOTE: I listened to this book to prep for #ArmchairAudies and Gunmetal Magic. This used the same narrator though and I liked her.

First Thought When Finished:The last half of Magic Bites by Ilona Andrews really hooked me and now I see why everyone raves about this series.

Story Talk: I am one of the last people I know to get to this series so my review could be “what she said” πŸ™‚ However, I want to say that I loved the action, the emotion, and the world of Kate Daniels. The first of the story took me a bit to get into but by the end I was in the mood for more. I see why everyone loves this series.

Character Talk: Kate was AWESOME! I love her brass, sass, and her being a little unusual looking. I like that she isn’t a beauty queen and she is quite OK with it. I am still warming up to Curran but I am sure I will get there. Overall, the characters hooked me and I can’t wait to read more.

Audiobook Talk:

Narrated by RenΓ©e Raudman / Running Time of 9 hrs and 6 mins

This is the first book that I have listened too by Renee but it won’t be my last. I enjoyed her emotions, pacing, and most of her voices. Curran’s voice is the only one that I am still getting used too. All of the other voices I think she nailed! I would recommend this series in audio format.

Sample:

Final Thought: Great beginning for a new to me series. I am glad that I am finally knocking some things off my TBR.

ReListen Thoughts Jan 10 2015

ReListen Thoughts: Overall I pretty much feel the same way. I am glad I relistened as it was a good refresher of the characters. Now I am on to book 2! If it rocks then I will continue the series πŸ™‚

  1. Better late than never!! And I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled (for real this time) for your thoughts on Magic Burns b/c it’s gonna hook you *nods emphatically* It will. Just wait πŸ˜€

ALSO–I can’t remember if I already said this (and I’m not even sure how long you’ve had the new look), but regardless, I love it.

  2. I’m binging on these audiobooks. I started last week with this book and yesterday I finished audiobook #5. I’m on a roll baby!!
I love the books, but I think I like the audiobooks a bit more. Renee Raudman does an awesome job.

    • I had only read this one before this year (and since that was 2012 I had to reread). I am now all caught up and counting down to the next one. I LOVED THE WORLD!

  3. I liked book 2 more than the this one, though I haven’t managed to read them all yet. I have them all (except maybe the most recent one) so soon!

  4. I remember thinking this was just OK but interesting enough to continue, Oh boy! I so freaking glad I stuck around. The hours of entertainment these listens have brought me are priceless! Every book after this one has made my top ten, and I hope it continues just as strong. Renee Raudman was nominated for Audie a few years back with ones of this narrations. I was so glad that finally the professionals took notice πŸ™‚

    • I am glad I decided to give the rest of them a try! I finished all of them last week and now I am waiting for the next ones. They were a great combo of words, narration, and action πŸ™‚

  5. I am half way through the audio right now and it is just starting to pick up. There was a lot to absorb with the characters and world, but now it is hitting its stride. This is my second book by this narrator, and I like her overall but her male voices need work.

    • I finished all of them last week. The narration gets better each book and the story really is good starting book 2. They were so good! This was my least favorite πŸ™‚

  6. I recently picked this one up when audible.com had a use a credit get one book free thing. I can’t wait to listen to it. πŸ™‚
