He’s the bad boy she’s always wanted...
Nate “Ghost” Weller has loved Ali Morgan nearly half his life. But he’s done something so heinous he’s convinced she’ll never forgive him if she discovers the truth, so he keeps his feelings and his secrets to himself. Then she blows into town with a mother lode of bad guys on her tail and Nate can’t deny she’s in serious trouble. Unfortunately, he’s the only one who can help her.
She’s the good girl he’s kept at arm’s length...
Ali knows Nate as the most solemn, aloof man on the planet. Sadly, he’s also the sexiest. For years she’s avoided him, unable to stomach his dark scowls and brooding silences… especially when she secretly yearns for his touch. Now she must rely on him to save her from the malevolent shadows ghosting her every move. When the bullets explode, so does their passion. But can love really conquer all? Or are some things just too terrible to forgive?

Original Review circa 2012
First thought when finished: I can’t wait for Frank and Becky’s Book!
What I Thought of the Story: Hell on Wheels is full of action, fun, and adrenaline rushes! I love the idea of the Black Knights as a team existing to kick ass and take names when the Government can’t. These are often my fantasy alpha men. I really appreciated the way that Julie Ann Walker introduced the team to both us and Ali. It was great to meet them as we walked into the compound. They each have very unique skill sets BUT they take the initiative to learn other skills too. Nate, the lead in this story, is out to protect his Best Friend’s sister Ali (whom he has loved for 10 years). I loved the methodical way that Nate and the team took each step as it came to them. Was it over the top in some areas? Sure but he was emotionally involved! I think otherwise they broke down this case like they would any other. I loved that!
What I Thought of the Characters: Nate’s language (word splicing) tended to get on my nerves but otherwise he was the strong, silent type of alpha hero. He didn’t say much but I loved hearing his thoughts. I thought Ali’s outbursts about his communication skills were dead-on. There were a few cheers from me anytime she went off on him! Poor Ali, it is hard to look strong when every other person in the story is used to this world and she is the fish out of water. It sometimes made her look weak but I thought she held up remarkably well for a kindergarten teacher. She wasn’t the strongest person but I felt she was perfect for Nate. I love the rest of the Black Knights and the 2 gals that were introduced in Hell on Wheels!
Final Thought: Great opening to a series that I think each book will be stronger than the last!
New Thoughts Circa 2017 ReRead
Book: I feel pretty much the same about Nate and Ali as I did the first time I read them. I will say having grown to love Nate more over the series did make me like him more upon re-read though. I did love visiting the boys again when they were a little (not much) less jaded. I love that we are getting Ozzie and Dagan’s books this year as they really are my favorites!
Narrated by: Abby Craden /Length: 9 hrs and 18 mins
This is the 2nd time that I have listened to Craden (oddly the other was also a motorcycle romance by Laura Kaye) and she is a solid narrator. I think in this one her male voices were a bit “growly” for lack of a better word but you get used to it pretty quick. Her Ali voice was dead on! I could see the line between innocent/carefree in a way that only a kindergarten teacher would be and a little tough because she had a special forces brother. Off to book 2 Re-Read!
Part of my Re-Read for Fun Reviews
During her non-reading time you can find her hanging with her rescue furr children named after book characters: Lizzie a beautiful cattle dog mix (Pound Pup), Cinder a beautiful Shep/Pitt mix (Pound Pup), and Minerva a beautiful Shep/Pitt mix (Foster Fail). Gathering with friends and family, attending conventions, watching movies/tv shows, rooting for the 49rs, and crocheting.
