Bonnie Turkle, multimedia historian for the Kentucky Commission of Tourism, is dispatched to Mud Creek, a tiny eastern Kentucky town, with few prospects but many oddballs, to rescue important artifacts from McBride’s Music Hall. Now fallen beyond disrepair, McBride’s was once a jewel of the early American music scene, an intersection of the country-western and rhythm and blues circuits. The former owner’s grandson, Will McBride, who also happens to be Mud Creek’s esteemed mayor, would like nothing more than to see the place bull-dozed in favor of a factory that will provide much-needed jobs to his citizens. But Bonnie finds evidence of a legendary musical event at the music hall and her plans to turn it into a museum put Mud Creek’s economic future at risk – not to mention the growing flirtation between the two of them. If Will and Bonnie can’t find common ground, the town’s past and future will be lost.

First Thought when Finished: Rhythm and Bluegrass by Molly Harper was a fun romp with small town laughs that brought me back to my roots. As someone who grew up in a super small town, this reminds me a lot of the people I grew up around. The character were fun, the end was a little rushed, and overall I smiled A LOT!

Audio Thoughts:

Narrated By Amanda Ronconi / Length: 5 hrs and 57 mins

Amanda Ronconi and Molly Harper are one of those duos that I think work well together. Amanda gets Molly’s humor and always knocks it out park.

  1. I enjoyed Snow Falling on Bluegrass, and I probably could enjoy this one too, I just have to be in the mood for this kind of listens…. You know me and my dark taste..lol
    Thanks Felicia.

    • Me too! Contemporary Romance is my least favorite of the romance genres so I have to be in the mood for them. I just happened to want light, airy, and fun over my “sick” time.

  2. I love small town books, and hey you can’t go wrong if the book makes you laugh. I also like that this is short. I have been tempted to try this, and now your review has nudged me in the direction.
