From Goodreads: One cowboy, one bar, one hell of a holiday!
She Means business…
Sharlene Waverly is determined to have the “new and improved” Honky Tonk up and running before the holiday. For that, she’ll need Holt Jackson, the best darn carpenter in the state. But his warm, whisky-colored eyes make her insides melt, and before she knows it, she’s sharing her darkest secrets and talking about the nightmares…
He’s determined to keep things professional…
Holt Jackson needs the job at the Honky Tonk, but is completely unprepared to handle the beautiful new bar owner he’s working for.
Sharlene and Holt try like crazy to deny the sparks flying between them, but their love may just be the best Christmas present either one of them ever got.
What I Loved: Growing up in West Texas this book felt like a story of people that I could actually know. I could identify so many personalities from my life and think, yep that could really happen. I enjoyed all the little quips and the story of family. Holt made my heart go a little fluttery because of what a stand up guy he was.
What I Liked: The Honky Tonk itself! I haven’t read the other books in the series but I have a feeling the Honky Tonk is a character all on it’s own. It really reminded of a place that you could go into, have a beer, see your friends, and just have a heck of a good time. I don’t like country music but it is more about the people than the music.
Complaints: Keep in mind that I a)don’t normally read contemporary romances and b)stay even further away from country contemporary. My one complaint is just because I am a Texas girl but not everyone in a small town talks with a twang and/or with country talk. I think in this book it was a little overboard but overall did not distract from the story.
Why I gave it a 3: This was a fun read that I think most people who enjoy Country Contemporary Romances will enjoy. I thought the Christmas tie-in was very cute and not overdone!
Who would I recommend it too: Contemporary Romance readers who are looking for a country read. I don’t think you have to read the other ones in the series (I didn’t) and the story really held it’s own!
