Review: Dead Reckoning by Charlaine Harris (Rating 4.5 Wine Glasses)

From Goodreads: With her knack for being in trouble’s way, Sookie witnesses the firebombing of Merlotte’s, the bar where she works. Since Sam Merlotte is now known to be two-natured, suspicion falls immediately on the anti-shifters in the area. But Sookie suspects otherwise and she and Sam work together to uncover the culprit – and the twisted motive for the attack. But her attention is divided. Though she can’t ‘read’ vampires, Sookie knows her lover Eric Northman and his ‘child’ Pam well – and she realises that they are plotting to kill the vampire who is now their master. Gradually, she is drawn into the plot -which is much more complicated than she knows. Caught up in the politics of the vampire world, Sookie will learn that she is as much of a pawn as any ordinary human – and that there is a new Queen on the board . .

Overall Rating 4.5
Story Rating 4.5
Character Rating 4.5
“Sookie Fun Rating” 4.5

NOTE: I love Charlaine Harris and her writing. There hasn’t been a book in this series that I have rated below a 3.5. That being said this was definitely one of the more fast paced of the series with lots of fun parts! I think those that felt the last book was a little blah will really enjoy this one.

What I Loved: There was so much about this book I enjoyed: getting to see more of the Sam/Sookie friendship, more Pam (she was pretty front and center in this book), more Eric/Sookie working it out (or not–those two are fun to watch), and one scene with Alcide that had me giggling. This book just had all the elements that make me go: YEAH!

What I Liked: I really liked, in this book anyway because I have no idea where she is going with it, the Dermont (I am sure that I am spelling that wrong)story because he is growing in personality by leaps and bounds. I like to see the fairy world and finally glad that Sookie is learning more about it. I liked the connection back to her grandmother and how she found some more information about the history of her family.

Complaints: Bill–seriously just send him off already. He was useful in this book but I don’t want him and Sookie together.

Why I gave it a 4.5: I really enjoyed the book and read it in one day. I couldn’t put it down and laughed out loud several times.

Who I would recommend it too: Fans of the series!
