This is going to be a totally different type of review from me.  In fact, it really isn’t a review at all.  It is more of an “ode to Jane Austen”.  I truly do think she ruined my dating life but I totally forgive her for it 🙂 First question you are going to have is why do I have a picture of Jane (played by Susannah Harker) from Pride and Prejudice on a post about Sense and Sensibility? Answer:  I listened to the audiobook version of Sense and Sensibility read by her and it was possibly the best audiobook I have ever heard!  Yes better than Jim Dale reading Harry Potter (which I also really enjoyed)!  If I am going to review anything in this post that is it.  If you get a chance to pick up this audiobook version, you should.  She is very good at making each character unique and keeping you engaged the whole book.  It is unabridged so 14 hours long but well worth it. Disclaimer: Yes, I have read Sense and Sensibility a few different times before listening to it on audio.  It is my 2nd favorite Jane Austen novel behind Pride and Prejudice. […]

About: Toni Giovanni is a thief although she prefers to call it the high-risk recovery business. Her current job feels suspiciously easy until a mysterious artifact draws her into an ancient prophecy and binds her soul to a spirited dragon named Amethyst. But Toni isn’t quite ready to be taken over by a dragon, even if Amethyst’s appetite for sexy archaeologist Dr. Ben Davis mirrors Toni’s own. And she’s got a big problem on her hands: turns out the prophecy predicts that dragons will end the world and there are many more dragons out there. Toni’s going to need all the help she can get…. What I LOVED: The premise of this book was unique and intriguing.  Dragons were not a storyline I have read in a very long time. What I LIKED: I really enjoyed most of this book.  Amethyst and Toni were written really well and together they made a great character.  Dr Davis was smart (love that LS celebrates the geek in this book), loyal, hunky, and just everything a good love interest should be.  It made for a very enjoyable read. What was So-So: It was too short.  I felt like a lot of the story was […]

About: Half Summer faery princess, half human, Meghan has never fit in anywhere. Deserted by the Winter prince she thought loved her, she is prisoner to the Winter faery queen. As war looms between Summer and Winter, Meghan knows that the real danger comes from the Iron Fey, iron-bound faeries that only she and her absent prince have seen. But no one believes her. Worse, Meghan’s own fey powers have been cut off. She’s alone in Faery with only her wits for help. Trusting anyone would be foolish. Trusting a seeming traitor could be deadly. But even as she grows a backbone of iron, Meghan can’t help but hear the whispers of longing in her all-too-human heart. What I LOVED:  Puck (again)!  He is my favorite character in this series.  He is very well written and completely enjoyable.  He could make you laugh out loud and then get down to business when it was called for. I felt that he was true to his character in every situation and even though he loved Meghan, still was her friend first.  A truly good guy! What I LIKED:  With this book there were a great many additions that I enjoyed:  The “in-between” […]

About: Meghan Chase has never fit in at her small-town high school, and now, on the eve of her 16th birthday, she discovers why. When her half brother is kidnapped, Meghan is drawn into a fantastical world she never imagined–the world of Faery, where anything you see may try to eat you, and Meghan is the daughter of the summer faery king. Now she will journey into the depths of Faery to face an unknown enemy . . . and beg the help of a winter prince who might as soon kill her as let her touch his icy heart. The Iron King is the first book in the Iron Fey series. Actual 3.5 What I LOVED: Puck!  Seriously this was a very fun character to read and follow.  In the true sense of the word, he lived up to all expectations that I had and the author did a great job of bringing in all the elements that had made him an engaging character of literature. I also really liked Meagan Chase as a heroin. She was adaptable, headstrong, unsure, loyal, loving, and displayed a healthy amount of fear.  She was a fantastic lead in this story and fun […]
