Hi Y’all! It is November and that is always the month I am reminded that there are tons of things that I am thankful for in my life. This year November will be known as the Month of Thanks. I am going to do 30 days of Thanks here on Geeky Bloggers Book Blog! Each day I will highlight one author (and the book they wrote that moved me) and one blogger (and their awesomeness) that I am thankful for! These are not in any particular order and by no means is 30 going to cover everyone that I love. First: I want to say thank you to all the men/women who have served/serve the USA for all the hard work,  perseverance,  and compassion.  I am grateful for all the freedoms I have because of the work that you do! I am thankful for Nina Bruhns and her Men in Uniform Series!  This year I read White Hot. It is the second book in the series and just as good as the first.  I fell in love for the 2nd time with Clint Walker (what can I say he made an impression on me in the first book).  I have read a few books by Nina and the one thing I can always count on from her are Alpha Men with compassion.  I love how she makes her heroes strong and protective but always caring about more than themselves.  She is just brilliant at doing that and I fall in love every time! U.S. Navy Lieutenant Commander Clint Walker is on the run across the icy Alaskan Bering Sea. The Chinese operatives tracking him will do anything to retrieve the stolen military plans in Clint’s possession–and kill him for their trouble. Desperate to safeguard the documents, he stows aboard a cargo ship–and comes face to face with the most beautiful–and determined–ship’s commander he’s ever encountered… Captain Samantha Richardson won’t let anything–or anyone–stand in the way of her career…especially now with her whole future riding on this latest run. Yet the sight of her brash stowaway’s enticing bedroom eyes and his hard, muscular body has Sam fantasizing about indulging in a small indiscretion, just this once. After all, Clint Walker is her ideal man: hot, intriguing, and temporary. But when Clint and Sam give in to their simmering passion, they emerge to face an exploding danger that threatens to put an all too permanent end to their growing feelings…and their lives   I am thankful for Christi from Smitten with Reading!  I have had the pleasure of meeting her and y’all she is just as sweet in person.  Christi is someone who I admire for a lot of reasons but my top one is her passion to follow her writing dreams.  She published her first book this year: Operation Endgame and it was fab!  She takes her writing seriously but she also takes her reading seriously.  That girl can read more than anyone I know 🙂  She has great taste in books and is […]

These are not in any particular order and by no means is 30 going to cover everyone that I love. I am thankful for Maya Banks and her KGI Series!  This is one of the series that is an auto buy for me.  This year  Echoes at Dawn was published and we finally got to read about Rio!  I love when a truly alpha male is knocked on his ass by love.  Maya is one of the top in this game and Rio’s story did not disappoint at all.  I laughed, cried, and seriously was a little worried about our leading lady more than once in the story.  I really loved the pairing of Rio and Grace and can’t wait for the series to continue! The Kelly Group International (KGI): A super-elite, top secret, family-run business. Qualifications: High intelligence, rock-hard body, military background. Mission: Hostage/kidnap victim recovery. Intelligence gathering. Handling jobs the U.S. government can’t…  They live by night. Grace Peterson is desperate, in hiding, and on the run after escaping a shadowy group determined to exploit her extraordinary ability to heal others. Her only lifeline—an unerring telepathic ability she shares with her sister—has been severed, leaving her alone and vulnerable. And time is fast running out… Enlisted to bring Grace home is Rio, relentless member of the KGI. He’s unprepared for his reaction to this wounded, damaged woman, and he’s fiercely determined to protect her from those who nearly destroyed her. In Rio, she finds a safe haven, and for the first time…hope. But the mission is far from over. The danger Grace has eluded is fast closing in. And now it’s pitching two lovers toward an unfamiliar horizon, with no place left to hide.   I am thankful for Missie the Unread Reader who is currently kicking ass being a derby chic (congrats to her for making the team), tackling school, and taking a much deserved blogging break.  She is one of my favorite people in the whole wide world and such an inspiration.  She wanted to make a change in her life so she is doing it!  I wish I had half the gumption and drive this chica has.  She will forever be one of my favorite people in the world.

These are not in any particular order and by no means is 30 going to cover everyone that I love. I am thankful for Jonathan Maberry and his Joe Ledger series (which I am late too)!  This year I read Patient Zero and was pretty much blown away.  I don’t know why I was stunned because Dead of Night is in my top 10 books ever read.  I know Jonathan can write in a way that will scare the heck out of you and then make you feel everything down to your emotional core.  I think what I loved most about Patient Zero is how it straddled the reality of today with a super charged biological weapon that I almost believe could happen.  I was totally blown away with the realism!  Plus, Joe Ledger like Jack Bauer is on my character dream team of people I would like to get me out of a sticky situation if needed.  Everyone has a character dream team, right? When you have to kill the same terrorist twice in one week there’s either something wrong with your world or something wrong with your skills… and there’s nothing wrong with Joe Ledger’s skills.  And that’s both a good, and a bad thing.  It’s good because he’s a Baltimore detective that has just been secretly recruited by the government to lead a new taskforce created to deal with the problems that Homeland Security can’t handle. This rapid response group is called the Department of Military Sciences or the DMS for short. It’s bad because his first mission is to help stop a group of terrorists from releasing a dreadful bio-weapon that can turn ordinary people into zombies. The fate of the world hangs in the balance….   I am thankful to Smash Attack Reads for just being an awesome chic!  Seriously y’all, I think it is her drive to make a difference in the world through her career that I respect the most (and I respect a hell of lot of things that she does).  I love her humor and her love of all things epic.  She has a wonderful way of telling you about the books she reads that spur discussions instead of just being reviews.  I love her World Building Wednesdays and her new Let’s Talk feature!  She is amazing and I am glad she is a friend!

These are not in any particular order and by no means is 30 going to cover everyone that I love. I am thankful for Rhiannon Frater and her As The World Dies Trilogy.  The last entry into this series Siege is currently sitting in my top 10 for this year.  I was gutted with emotion while reading the final chapters and was desperate to just gather everyone up in a big group hug.  It is not often that a book can make you cry, laugh, and scream in the midst of its pages but Siege will make you do just that.  Even though this is a “Zombie” series, it is truly one of the most compelling stories you will ever read!   Siege is the conclusion to Rhiannon Frater’s As the World Dies trilogy, which should appeal to fans of The Walking Dead. Both The First Days and Fighting to Survive won the Dead Letter Award from Mail Order Zombie. The First Days was named one of the Best Zombie Books of the Decade by the Harrisburg Book Examiner. The zombie illness has shattered civilization. The survivors who have found tenuous safety in Texas defend their fort against the walking dead and living bandits. Katie has made peace with the death of her wife and is pregnant and married to Travis, who has been elected Mayor. Jenni, her stepson, Jason; and Juan—Travis’s righthand man—are a happy family, though Jenni suffers from PTSD. Both women are deadly zombie killers. In Siege, the people of Ashley Oaks are stunned to discover that the vice president of the United States is alive and commanding the remnants of the US military. What’s left of the US government has plans for this group of determined survivors   I am thankful for Ashley the Bookish Brunette and all of her awesomeness!  She truly is one of the funniest women I have ever had the chance to become friends with.  She never fails to make me giggle and her love of all things Zombie has landed her firmly on my favorite people list!   She is the gal you want around during the zombie apocalypse if for no other reason than she is their Queen (you never know she make work out a deal where they bypass eating your brain)!  Seriously though she is just an all around great person that will make you smile!

First thought when finished: The Road to Woodbury was much better than The Rise of the Governor! Also proved that the humans are scarier than the zombies!
