From Goodreads: Amaliya wakes under the forest floor, disoriented, famished and confused. She digs out of the shallow grave and realizes she is hungry in a new, horrific, unimaginable way. Sating her great hunger, she discovers that she is now a vampire, the bloodthirsty creature of legend. She has no choice but to flee from her old life and travels across Texas hoping to escape her creator.

NOTE: I was having a discussion the other day that I was getting kind of tired of Vampires. This book though kind of built up my love for them again. I think it was because the Vampires acted like Vampires: Killed, Drank, and had to avoid the sun. YEAH!
Book Note: The blurb only gives a very small description about what this book has to offer. It is not only Amaliya’s journey once being turned but Cian’s journey to being the man/vampire he should. It was a different kind of journey for all the side characters to resolve their Point of Views with reality. Mostly though this is just a fantastic piece of storytelling!
What I Loved: Normally I would start with the main characters but I really think it was the Merry Band of Vampire Hunters that kind of stole the show (especially in the 2nd half). By the end, I was rooting for the 4 Musketeers (as I called them) especially Grandmama and Sergio. She was just a hoot and he was fantastic about everything. Even Samantha I loved towards the end but that is mostly because of her interactions with Jeff. I did love Cian and Amaliya too. This was a fantastic journey in really well written characters. I love that about Rhiannon’s writing.
What I Liked: The story was fantastically woven and really well paced. There were quite a few moments of “OMG did that just happen” and “WOW that was pretty cool world building”. In the middle, there was a little lull but I think that story building was needed overall.
Why I gave it a 4.25: Rhiannon Frater delivered another great story with great characters. She really is one of the best character driven writers out there. You should check her out!
During her non-reading time you can find her hanging with her rescue furr children named after book characters: Lizzie a beautiful cattle dog mix (Pound Pup), Cinder a beautiful Shep/Pitt mix (Pound Pup), and Minerva a beautiful Shep/Pitt mix (Foster Fail). Gathering with friends and family, attending conventions, watching movies/tv shows, rooting for the 49rs, and crocheting.
