Howdy Y’all! I am here to bribe Dewey’s participants to get up and move! My mini-challenge this time is relatively simple: Get up and move 15 min at some point between Hour 13 and Hour 17. I call this my #FitReader #ReadAThon get up off your butt challenge.
My plan: To get up 15 min each hour during this 4 hour block! You don’t have to do that much but I would encourage you to spend a solid 15 min loosening up your limbs. We are far enough in that the butt is probably getting a little sore from all the sitting. Give the bum a break and shake it a bit!
Here is a Mix from the 80s that will put you in a Rocky state of mind and PERFECT for dancing/walking/or whatever
Open Internationally (Void where prohibited): Book of your choice from Book Depository up to a $10 value! Good luck….

This defeats the purpose of exercising but I was up for at least 15 minutes to order and go pick up pizza! I took my dog outside in between that time too π
Spent several minutes dancing & embarrassing my tween daughter. π
Just spent a few minutes doing calisthenics while listening to a story on http://www.podcastle.com
Went to the gym tonight!! Read while I ran π
This is great! Most of my movement consists of getting up to brew more tea, so it’s helpful to have the reminder that today could be quite sedentary. Jumping jacks between chapters it is!
We wanted to prove we are all #fitreaders here at GeekyLibrary. This challenge was fun! (Check out our fitness photo on Twitter (@GeekyLibrary).

I’ve been trying to keep moving all day. Unfortunately, it’s been raining here all day so I haven’t been able to get outside, but I’ve been doing dishes, folding laundry, and even did some squats and crunches (all while listening to an audiobook, so no reading time lost!). This is a great challenge! Thanks!
I got up and picked up the house a bit while listening to an audiobook. It definitely feels good to more around every so often.
I did some gardening outside earlier that helped. Now I’m just walking around inside so that I’m moving.
I set the sleep timer on my Hoopla app for 15 minutes and listened to my Jacky Faber audiobook while I did a few yoga poses, some belly dance warmups, and ballet barre exercises π Thanks for hosting!
Yes!! This is amazing!! It was so nice to get UP OFF MY BUTT, and go outside with the baby in her stroller and my audiobook and walk!
Did ten push ups and ran in place for a bit! Thanks for this, I feel perked up!

Thank you for this much-needed challenge! I just got up and did a set of the exercises my physical therapist has given me (I’m a runner and have some hip problems!) to perform twice a day…perfect! Enjoy the Readathon!
I am participating in a Weekend FitBit Challenge and realized that I was basically at Level Sloth so I downloaded Amy Poehler’s “Yes Please” as an audiobook and marched around my room listening to it. for about 45 minutes. Or 5400 ish steps. I will probably do another chunk later to get to 10,000.
I had had plans to go for a walk but I took a nap inside and now it is dark and raining.
I’m going to sit on my yoga ball while I finish Middlemarch. Kinda like having a treadmill desk, I think.
I am planting a tree. Seriously. Son is digging hole now. That’s next hour. This hour, I am making something to eat.
I got up, took a shower, and made dinner this hour. It was a good break π
Took my dog for a walk. Got the blood flowing again! π
Oh, wow, I needed this! Since it’s middle of the night here, I was getting really sleepy, so I decided to try working out, and I did the Tibetan Rites, and wow, did that woke me up π So, thank you!
In the form I’m Aleksandra N.
I’m dog sitting and just took her for a walk π
This was easy, since as it came up my roommate and I had just decided to walk to Starbucks from our apartment, a solid 15 minute walk! Thanks for encouraging healthy reading habits π
I have been out on the beach all day and have had lots of exercise alreadu but I took a strool away fromt eh chaos for a bit and walked the surf edge for 20 minutes π

Oh, that’s such a great idea! π
Now I’m not so tired anymore.
I think this is an awesome idea!
I’ve been listening to audio while I do a few chores so I’m getting lots of movement this hour.
This is such a great ideaβI was starting to feel pretty sluggish! I popped on the elliptical for 25 minutes with my book. π
Thanks for hosting the giveaway!
Yes! I did 2 15 min yoga programs and took a walk
As soon as I’m done commenting I am going to get up and get myself a glass of wine. And, ok, do some stretches too. I’ve had to be careful with this readathon because I have a messed up back and prolonged sitting (or lounging on the couch) is super painful. Great idea to remind people to get up off their behinds! I wish I could dance around like a lunatic but the back prevents it! Happy reading! π
Awesome idea, it’s pretty sad that I actually needed this reminder π
I’m glad it’s almost 3 am here in Germany, so it’s pretty unlikely that anyone saw me jumping up and down to Eye of the Tiger π Great challenge!
Nice idea! I’ve trying to get up and walk a little every now and then.
Thanks for the challenge!
I’ve been taking regular walking breaks and getting up now and then to move around while reading . Posted progress on my Instagram @dinahshouse
I’m glad this was one of the mini challenges! I made myself go outside and stretch for a while! I needed that π
I worked for 5 hours this morning on my feet the whole time. I do the pulling and shipping for Hastings. It means wandering the store and pulling the online orders and packaging them. I seriously need to grab a pedometer so I know how far I’ve walked. π
but im so tired :'(
Yay, dance recess is great!
I’ve been prett stationary for 12 hours, but in an hour or so I’ll be walking to watch a soccer game, earphones in and audiobook on. Last read-a-thin I actually played a field hockey game in the middle and it turned out to be my best ga,e of the season, so reading and exercise do go well together!
I make sure to get up every hour to move around a little, but I just danced per your recommendation. Enjoy the rest of the event! π
Thank you for the reminder! Seriously, I haven’t been good about that this readathon. I did some sit-ups and yoga in order to stretch!
I often move around when I read, read-a-thon included. But my favorite activity is to min-cycle when I read. And most recently with the book The Color Purple I looked like the pic here, stirring and reading only I did have a bit more clothes on haha!
*mini-cycle* oops typo, eyes are getting tired, I guess haha!
I got up and stretched for a while. It’s currently 3 am and my mum’s sleeping in the room beneath mine, so I wasn’t able to do anything livelier than that, but it really helped make me feel a bit more refreshed and awake. π
felt good to get up and move around
Unfortunately I have been moving since noon and really would love to sit and read for a while…. So this 15 minute move will be good. planning on going for a walk in a bit, with an audio book,
Yes I did. I walked to kitchen made some tea and sat back on the sofa. LOL! Soon I will be going to walk to the bathroom. Drinking tea like a fish today! π Thanks.
Hi there. What a great challenge. Right now it is almost 2.30 AM in Denmark and I bet I’m not the only one who’s getting tired. So I’m doing Jumping Jacks and run a bit in the same spot.
Been standing up, reading for a while. but! It is 2.23 am and I’ve been up since 7am yesterday, and its time for a few hours of napping!:p That is a different position at least;)
I planned to do a little Taylor Swift Dance-Party in the middle of the night and because I was feeling tired I did it just after I read about your Challenge. I’m reading from Germany and it turned 2 am here and I started to feel a little tired and sleepy. Thank you for your challenge and the encouragement to finally get up and move a litte. I think I’ll move a litte more often in the next few hours.
Definitely needed to get up and move!
I am actually on the go constantly today! π
I’m going to get up and play with my 2 dogs for a bit each hour! Just to play fetch or chase them around the house (they love that! Haha)
Great idea. Great time to get some audio time in too. Saw you’ve been getting quite a bit done today while listening.
Luckily, my dogs insist on going outside for potty runs so I’m guaranteed movement every couple of hours at the minimum. LOL Great reminder!
I’ve done yoga several times today. I get either too easily distracted or sleepy if I don’t move around a little once in a while.
A lot going on at my end (family gatherings etc) so nothing seems to be going in my favor this readathon π
I’m still trying though. I hope I can at least finish the one book I’ve been trying to since the readathon began. It’s The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman by the way.

I keep getting up to use my kettle bell for weight training. Great challenge!
I actually have a standing desk, so I’ve been regularly getting up and moving at least a little when I come to type my updates! I’ve been spending at least five minutes doing that every hour.
I went to the bathroom…does that count, haha.
When i get tired of reading i star dancing actually. An hour ago i have a private concert in my room with Don’t Stop me Now by Queen.
Made a post on my blog! Definitely been up and moving around a lot today and will keep doing so! Got to keep those aches away!
I will take my dog out for a walk soon for a full hour. I go to balcony to smoke every hour for 5 mins or so. Not too bad π
I danced around to Lime in the Coconut, Uptown Funk, Wop, and Lose Control. Thanks for the kick in the butt to get my blood pumping!!
I always walk around my house every half hour, I get easily distracted and antsy if I’m sitting down for too long. This is a great idea! π
My fifteen minutes of moving are going to be me doing my physical therapy exercises for my knee. With my knee issues, anything else hurts these days.
I actually got up and paced around my room with my book when I got sick of sitting. Probably looked pretty strange, but you gotta avoid going numb!
Grabbing my weights…. great mix! Thanks for the motivation!!!
Such a great idea! I was laying on the ground reading earlier doing leg lifts and crunches. Also lots of stretching to avoid cramps from sitting so much! π
I plan to get up and move for at least 5 minutes of every hour. ALready done my first 5!
I didn’t exactly take a walk, but I did get of my butt and went outside to take a smoke (healthy – I know). Besides, there are stairs and all. π
I walked the dog for about 20-25 minutes. That counts right?! π
This is a great idea, thank you! I hope you’re having fun with your reading!
I’m planning to get up and move the 15 minutes right after I finish typing this! It honestly is a pretty wise thing to do and gives a nice break. I think I will listen to some audiobook while moving around a bit π
This is a great idea, so I think I will get up and walk around my house for a few minutes..we actually have our house made to where you could walk the living room and dining room in a sort of circle so will be perfect for this. π
I’ve already sort of implemented this, making sure I do some housework or go to the veggie shop on the corner in between books π
Right now, I have the balcony door open for some fresh cool air, and will be taking a midnight walk with the hubby π
I’ve been taking a short break each hour already, although not a full 15 minutes. More like 5! Still, it’s something!
Great challenge! I went for a walk earlier, and this is just the push I need to take a couple more turns around the neighborhood before the sun goes down.
This song is definitely one that will get me up and moving. Thanks for hosting the challenge.
I also try to move around every now and then, otherwise I feel horrible the net day!
Throughout the last 13 hours I’ve been getting up and getting on the treadmill with a book. Sometimes it was a disaster. However, there was a few good moments!
Thanks so much for hosting a challenge!
I must admit that no, I didn’t get up. I’ve been drinking lots and lots of tea and water so I’ve had to go to the bathroom a lot – must count for something, right? π Thanks for the chance! π
Keep up the great work. BTW you should have used Dean’s (Supernatural) Eye of Tiger video. LOL
