A sassy redhead with an axe to grind…

After catching her husband kissing another woman in the barn, Loretta Sullivan Bailey left Lonesome Canyon Ranch and swore she’d never come back. But when her daughter threatens to drop out of college to become a rancher’s wife, Loretta refuses to let her baby make the same mistake she did. She returns to the ranch, determined to get her daughter back in school by the summer’s end…and resolute on ignoring her feelings for her ex-husband.

A bullheaded but oh so sexy cowboy…

A cowboy from his hat to his boots, ruggedly handsome rancher Jackson Bailey is none too pleased that his feisty—and gorgeous—ex-wife has suddenly shown up seventeen years after their divorce. But despite all their fighting and fussing, the two stubborn former lovers soon discover that old flames burn the hottest. Can they finally put aside their differences and find happiness together…forever?

Read It File It (short review): Long Hot Texas Summer by Carolyn Brown is one of those books that just leave you with a smile on your face. The 2nd chance romance really works because Loretta & Jackson were smoking hot together. Be aware to enjoy this you must not mind a deep Texas twang & a bit of old-fashioned ideas. If you love those things then this may be the read for you!

Audio Thoughts:

Narrated By Laural Merlington / Length: 7 hrs and 20 mins

Let me preface this review of the narration with I am a Texan (with a TX family spread far and wide over our state) so I’m probably a bit more sensitive to how TX accents are done. Laural did an excellent job with the pacing and delivering of some very funny lines. I thought her older generation accents were pretty accurate. However, I wasn’t a fan of either Loretta or Jackson’s “voices”. It happens! I would listen to Laural do something else however as I think this might have been a specific TX accent thing to me.

Final Thoughts: If you are looking for a 2nd chance romance with a lot of sass and fireworks then Long Hot Texas Summer by Carolyn Brown should be tops on your list!

Felicia you have identified one of the main reasons why do not listen to audiobooks, that and the fact hate to be read to when can read an actual book faster than that.

This book and most of the others that author Carolyn Brown has written that I have read with Texas settings or characters that are Texans rang true and was very entertaining as well as very easy to read, have always loved to find familiar to me areas to read about and this hit the correct notes 100% in the romance department as well so all in all it was a very fun and enjoyable story.
