Review: Knight by Kristen AshleyKnight by Kristen Ashley

Date Read: July 2015

Anya Gage has learned that to get anything good in life, you have to work for it. She has no expectations, no dreams. Then she finds herself at a party where she doesn’t want to be and she meets Knight. Knight Sebring knows who he is, what he wants and what he likes. And he gets it. But he never expected something as sweet as Anya Gage to wander into his bedroom during a party he did not expect to be having to borrow his phone. Knight tries to leave Anya to the life she deserves of white picket fences and a man who watches football on Sundays – good, normal and clean. But when Anya comes to his nightclub and finds herself in a situation, he knows someone has to look after her, he can’t fight it anymore and he decides that man will be him. Knight teaches Anya that, just as with the bad, in life you should also expect the good. And he teaches her this by giving it to her. But Knight has a dark past and just as he desires Anya for exactly who she is, he fears when she finds out exactly the man he has become and always intends to be, she’ll leave him for good, normal and clean.

First Thought when Finished: 2 things really made me dislike Knight by Kristen Ashley: Daddy and weak leading lady! (I thought Viv was a better of example of someone in that lifestyle).

Quick Thoughts: Originally my thought was “Review Coming later (cause I really wanted to like Knight after reading Ride Steady so I am trying not to let my review get clouded with that disappointment)”. There is just no way that won’t happen. I have had a love/WTF ride with Kristen Ashley. The one thing that remains steady is that she is highly addictive and girl can tell a story. She is also 100% committed and she follows a character all the way through. Sometimes that is like “the best thing EVEH” and in this case (for me) it was more “What the ever love f*ck”. I just couldn’t get over some particular quirks between Knight and Anya. To the point it made me uncomfortable. It wasn’t just Anya (though to be honest most Subs I read are much more like Viv than her), it was Knight too. That being said, outside the sex I did really like the story, action, and what Knight brings to the table. So I am going try and scrub the “Daddy” thing/weak sub out of my head. I will just totally imagine them outside the bedroom for now on 🙂

PS: I don’t read a lot of Dom/Sub so maybe they are more common of a couple that I imagine. My reading experience though has had them more like Viv. In fact, I would have rather had more Viv’s story.

I read this one back in the fall, and I had totally forgotten the “Daddy” part. Thank goodness. 🙂 So maybe if you give it some time, it will fade away…
On the other hand, I really enjoyed the rest of the book.

  2. I tried this book awhile ago and the whole ‘Daddy’ thing turned me off immediately and I DNF’d it. I’ve only read two KA books, one that I loved (Motorcycle Man), and haven’t tried any more. She’s definitely an author you either love or hate – and her books are really intimidating in length. One reason why I haven’t tried any more. Sorry this one didn’t work out for you. 🙁

    • It was all over the book. Actually her Chaos series is probably my favorite. All 3 have been a lot like Motorcycle Man since it is his club. The Rock Chick series was fun. The rest of Dream Men were hit/miss with me.
