This year I am balancing my life out a bit by including more TV, Movies, Gaming, and not just books. These will be the reviews of some of the things I am watching (TV or Movies). I don’t have cable so all of these will come either through Netflix, Amazon Prime, Movie Theater, or Roku channels.
Show: Jessica Jones
Channel: Netflix
Watched: November 2015
# of Episodes: 13
Confession: I used to be a TV junkie until I gave up cable 4 years ago. I had loads and loads of shows that I would not miss. However, since giving up cable I have slowly moved to just watching TV in bulk. I don’t watch anything that is on cable anymore (I used to to try and keep up with Walking Dead/Grimm). I have fallen in love with binge watching series that are short in nature. I don’t even mind waiting for the next series since it gives me something to look forward too and I have kept my list to a minimum. Jessica Jones is one of those series that I fell in love with and glad I binge watched!
Jessica Jones was one of those hit the ground running series. In fact, if anything the last episode was the least explosive in the whole series. I loved the balance of story and action. Sometimes with “super-hero” stories there is way more action than story BUT Netflix has done great with both Jessica Jones and Daredevil. Plus, I just flat-out like Jessica, Trish, and Luke. I even loved to loath Kilgrave! David Tennant played creepy so very well that I NEVER EVER want to be trapped in an elevator with him. (I have only seen Christopher E. Dr. Who–I am more of a Torchwood girl). Overall I totally give this series a must see if you like dark humor, snarky leading ladies, and loads of kick-ass action. Also, Jessica is quite a darn good P.I. and that totally is what sold me overall.
Episodes:
- AKA Ladies Night – Very catchy beginning! This episode should be able to tell you if the series if for you. It showed Jessica in all her facets and the pacing was pretty much what you can expect from the rest.
- AKA Crush Syndrome
- AKA It’s Called Whiskey
- AKA 99 Friends – This was probably my favorite episode!
- AKA The Sandwich Saved Me
- AKA You’re a Winner!
- AKA Top Shelf Perverts – Second favorite episode!
- AKA WWJD? – Most emotional episode for me.
- AKA Sin Bin
- AKA 1,000 Cuts
- AKA I’ve Got the Blues
- AKA Take a Bloody Number
- AKA Smile – Though this was the strangest pacing of an episode in the series, I still felt this was a good ending for this storyline. I know many people disagree but overall it worked for me.
I totally recommend this series!

I loved this one!! I binge watched it too since I love David Tennant and Kristen Ritter. I don’t quite get how it works into the Marvel world, but it was still a great show. I can’t wait for more! I kind of love that Netflix shows give you the whole first season instead of having to keep up with episodes. Even before kids I had problems keeping up with my shows since there were so many other things I wanted to do! Last year I watched all of The X-Files since I had wanted to watch it and I knew the revival was coming this year … best decision ever, but it took so long!
I was bored by the first one, so nope, not for me :/
My dad is such a huge fan of Longmire that he wants to go to Longmire Days in Buffalo WY. this summer. 🙂 I must stay I am a bit excited to check it out myself. 🙂
My husband and are about 5 episodes in, and enjoying it. I started it because of a fellow blogger rec and David Tenant stars in it…hello 🙂
I don’t keep up on series anymore either. It is too much to balance with reading, kids, blog etc. I just watch simple shows when I get time. That being said, my husband and are starting to watch more shows on Netflix but we go for the funny stuff.
I love this series too! I’m not a CRitter fan, but she captures Jones’ angst really well. And Tennant is so so good! I’m sad he’s dead!
The Boyfriend and I are slowly making our way through X-Files, so this one is still on my list. We only watch one episode a night, unless it’s a To Be Continued while we eat dinner. We might take a break to finish off Mad Men, though. Other than that, I only watch the shows he won’t watch on Friday nights when he has his game night. Last week I binged most of season 4 of New Girl.
I didn’t like Daredevil and wasn’t expecting much from JJ but after watching the first ep I was impressed. I need to get back to it. I want to binge watch and haven’t had the time yet.
I love David Tennant so much that everytime he appeared I would be so happy. I kept joking that I was totally missing the point of the show.
Hi Felicia!
These shows, Daredevil and Jessica Jones, stand head and shoulders above anything else in the genre on tv or film. I love it that they are street level superheroes, not flashy, save the world types. The pacing and storytelling are incredible. Both seasons will be remembered for an iconic scene. The hallway for Daredevil, and the cuts, in Jessica Jones. I have a low tolerance for graphic violence, but these shows presented it in a way that was part of the story, and not just shock value. This made it tolerable. I can’t wait for Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. {Confession: I was twelve in ’74, and I had a few Luke Cage comics. I wish I had them now!
Happy reading, listening and viewing, Felicia!
~Icky. 🙂
Luke Cage—I am counting down! COUNTING DOWN! I am looking forward to Iron Fist too and possibly The Punisher getting his own show too. I do think Netflix has done a great job of making the violence part of the story instead of just violence. I haven’t read any of the comics. One of these days I will though 🙂
It’s on my list to try, but just not had a chance yet. I like to binge watch things too…lol. (My favorite binge watch is Longmire!)
I love me some Longmire 🙂 I love the books too but the show is something special 🙂
I don’t binge watch much on Netflix, but sometimes I want to. This is one of the shows I’m anxious to get around to.
It is a great combo of dark humor and action. She really is just a different type of hero!
