Welcome to the Hour 10 Challenge: Character Road Trip! Since I am currently driving from Texas to Indiana this is perfect. I am listening to audiobooks and doing my check-ins via Instagram. I thought this would be a PERFECT challenge because every person loves a good road trip right?
Here is what you need to do:
- Pick a character that you would like to road trip with
- Tell me 3 destinations that you would hit
For me it would be Jane from Pride & Prejudice (I think she and I would make fab friends). We would totally drive from New York (catch a reading at Lady Jane’s Salon) then head to Denver (have wine at BookBar) and end up in Culver City CA (visiting The Ripped Bodice). We would of course stop at a lot of places on the way but these would be our 3 major stops.
You can either comment here with your choices, add to your check-in (just leave a link in the comment), and/or tweet me with your choices. This is open to anyone 18 and over. Hopefully you are participating in the ReadAThon and having fun. Just fill out the giveaway below to enter!
PRIZE: Book of your choice up to $10 (Open to everyone 18 & Over/Void where Prohibited)
- #BookAdvent Day 3: Books on Tape - December 3, 2021
- #BookAdvent Day 2: The Stand by Stephen King - December 2, 2021
- #BookAdvent Day 1: Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen - December 1, 2021
…and go outside of Denver to meet a friend… Just sayin’… 🙂
Road trips are so perfect for audios!
I would travel with Jack Shaftoe, of Neal Stevensons ‘Baroque Cycle’. We would sail to Tripoli, Bombay, and Sydney. 🙂
I’ll take Mr. Darcy! I’ll take him to my room and we can make up trips in between boom boom time. Hahaha
OMG! I live right by the Book Bar ! Let’s see… who would I pick to go on a road trip with? I go on a lot of road trips… they can be long long…. so I would pick Stephanie Plum. She just seems like she would be so fun. I think we would hit Vegas, then Atlanta and finally back to the Jersey Shore.
I would travel with Four from Divergent. Not only is he HOT but if we got in any trouble, I wouldn’t have to worry too much. I would love to visit Paris, New York and London with him because they are a few of my favourite cities!
Im chosing Kell from a darker shade of magic.
First I would take him to The magic Castle in Hollywood CA . I think he would like to humans doing sleight of hand magic, then I would take him to Chinatown for good food and trinket shopping and finally an outdoor concert
I would love to travel with Daneel Olivaw from Isaac Asimov’s Robot series. We would hit gritty places like New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles to solve crimes together!
Link to my choices 🙂 http://wp.me/p3ftwe-Qq
Nice answer. I think Jane would be a laid back traveling companion.
Since I am reading Little Women, I am going to pick Jo:
Firstly, we would head to Los Angeles to a small theater space where I KNOW she would love performing a few scenes as the gender bending character Viola in Twelfth Night; then off to Whidbey Island in Washington state to a writer’s retreat I know where she would get so much support for her writing; then to New York City to meet men and women living their lives as writers, actors and storytellers so she could see she is free to live any kind of creative life she wants.
I would travel with Fili snd Kili from The Hobbit through New Zealand , the US aND Ireland because why not?
This took a lot of thought! I’d have to say Jessie from “Tuck Everlasting” – he’s so full of energy and wonder and excitement, despite the fact that he’s been alive for centuries! I’d love to go to Rome, Greece, and Ireland.
I would really love to travel with Hermione Granger!! Would love to explore the streets of London (of course), check out Paris next so we could explore all of the best sightseeing stops (Louvre!!). Finally, I’d like to go somewhere hot. Maybe Australia so we could hit the beach with some cold drinks and talk about our love of books and knowledge.
I would love to take a road trip with Luna Lovegood from the Harry Potter series because she’s so funny and kooky in the best way possible. We would go to different zoos from the Muggle world, the last location where the crumple-horned snorkack was spotted, and lastly to Narnia since I think she’d get a kick out of Trumpkin and Mr. Tumnus.
I would travel with Lyra from Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials series. We would go to Svalbard, Oxford and Naples, Italy.
I’d like to take Molly Weasley on a road trip and treat her to some well-earned ladies-only “Treat Yo’Self” time. We’d go up to Niagara on the Lake and enjoy a spa day, a show at their beautiful theatre, and of course, tea at one of their fabulous bed and breakfasts! No boys allowed! Maybe Ginny can come. 😉 – Liz G
Winter from the Lunar Chronicles – since she loved spending time with the animals, I’d take her on a zoo trip – the Blank Park Zoo here in Des Moines, the Omaha Zoo, and the Como Park Zoo.
Gin Blanco from Jennifer Estep’s Elemental Assassin series.
We would of course toward the US in the service of the best BBQ joints so we can say that the Pork Pit is the best. LOL
Between BBQ joints we would stop at Six Flags (everywhere) and ride the scariest coasters.
Last we would end up at a bookstore because like me, Gin loves to read books too.
I would love to have a roatrip with Elizabeth Taylor from the Undead series, also known as Betsy Taylor. The roadtrip would be in Italy. Betsy has a weakness for shoes (as do I) and we would make constant stops for shopping! Rome, Milan, Tuscany !!
I definitely choose Phèdre nó Delaunay from Jacqueline Carey’s Kushiel’s Legacy series. We’d start with Vegas, then NYC, and wrap up in Paris.
I would like to travel with Hermione Granger. We would meet up in London and check out all the wonderful sites there, then we would travel to Hogwarts via the Hogwarts Express. Finally, we would head to the location of the next Quidditch Worlds Cup.
My first thought was that it would be fun (& funny!) to take a road trip through New Jersey with Stephanie Plum – especially if Lulu and/or Grandma came with us! But then I realized, chances are good that our car would blow up before the trip was over 🙂
Sue
Book By Book
I would love to take a hiking trip with Katniss Everdeen! She lives in Appalachia, where I am from (Pennsylvania.) It would be awesome to hike the Appalachian Trail with her, seeing all the peaks. After that, I would take her to New York City, to show her not all cities are like the Capitol! Lastly, I would love to take her to the beach, probably Bethany Beach, Del. The beach is soothing to me, and I expect the same from her.
This is a good one!
Here is my answer:
Coraline from Neil Gaiman’s book with the same name. I think she would be a fun person to go on adventures with because she is curious and a risk taker, but most importantly, she would be willing to help and work through a tough situation (which she proved in the book). When I go on road trips and outings, I like to have adventures and its always best to travel with someone you know will have your back just in case we find yourself in trouble.
Instead of picking cities and specific landmarks, I am instead going to pick activities:
– Camping & kayaking trip in the middle of the woods
– A creepy haunted house tour
– Visit a medium or tarot card reader to see if other ghosts reach out to Coraline

Let’s go with Margaret from Margaret the First, which I am currently reading. I’d like to take her on a road trip on Ireland, to Dublin, to Kilkenny, and to Cork.
Here’s a blog post of my mountainous roadtrip with Gimli from Lord of the Rings! https://purplesponge.wordpress.com/2016/04/23/character-road-trip/
I’d choose Katy Swartz from the Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout and we’d travel from WV to San Francisco. The 3 major stops we’d make would be Bourbon St. New Orleans LA, The Alamo San Antonio TX, and finally Alcatraz San Francisco CA.
I’d love to show Hermione Granger around to my three favorite places in the world – the Great Smoky Mountains, where I grew up; Atlanta, GA, my current home; and New Orleans, LA!
Roadtrip with Howl (Howell Jenkins) to so many magical places. We’ll stick to the UK since he’s from Wales, and we’ll go to Platform 9 3/4, the Scottish highlands, and Bath.
Temeaire from the Naomi Novak series. We’d hit all the places dragons could go, but especially The Grand Canyon, Mount Rushmore, and the salt flats in Oklahoma.
Roadtrip with Tessa Gray from The Infernal Devices, The Mortal Instruments, The Last Hours series’! We’d go to the Charles Dickens Museum in London (b/c ‘A Tale of Two Cities’ is important to her & Will), Blackfriars Bridge in London (b/c it’s a place very special to her & Jem), & The Admont Library in Austria (b/c holy heck we both love books & it looks so pretty!).
So fun! Here’s my answer: https://booksbeyondmeasure.wordpress.com/2016/04/23/hour-10-character-road-trip-challenge/
I just finished reading the first Harry Potter book with my kiddo, so we would both love to go on a road trip with Harry Potter on his broomstick to visit Hogwart’s castle (of course), the Forbidden Forest, and Hagrid’s hut. Shopping at Diagon Alley if there’s time.
I would love to go on a road trip with Alice from Alice in Wonderland. We would have to see a beautiful garden, like the Singapore Botanic Gardens. We would also need to see an amazing hedge maze, like the Longleat Hedge Maze (UK). Lastly, we would have to go to the Boston Harbor and have ourselves a nice tea party. 🙂
I would take a trip with Peter Pan and we would go to the Grand Canyon and fly!
I would love to take road trip with Hercule Poirot . We would start in the country side villages of England then driving to London. Folkowed by cross country drive to Paris, France. All along the way we will help solve mysteries. Private sleuths on the road.
Meg Murry from A Wrinkle in Time. We would start at the energy vortexes in Sedona, AZ, then head to Mt. Shasta in Redding, CA for some mystical phenomena and end up in Portland at Powell’s bookstore. I’m ready! Where are you, Meggles?
I just finished reading “Big Little Lies” by Liane Moriarty. From the beginning, I wanted to be a part of the ladies group with Madeline, Jane & Celeste. I would join them on a roadtrip through Tuscany with a private driver. We would first stop at Da Sara in Lucca, Italy for a coffee or two. Then go have some spa treatments at the thermal pool in Montecatini Terme. We would give in to the temptation to have chocolate at Il Chicco in Pistoia before making our way to Florence for a private viewing of Michelangelo’s David at the Galleria dell’Accademia. Continuous wine stops would happen as well.

I’m road-tripping with Amy and Roger from Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour by Morgan Matson, and we’re hitting Nashville, Niagara, and New York City! My entry is at my readathon progress post, here: https://youbookmeallnightlong.com/2016/04/23/24-hour-readathon-spring-2016/.
I would love to take road trip with Hercule Poirot . We would start in the country side villages of England then driving to London. Folkowed by cross country drive to Paris, France. All along the way we will help solve mysteries. Private sleuths on the road. ?
Who wouldn’t want to go on adventure with Mr. Bilbo Baggins?!? First, we would find the nearest pub to prepare ourselves for the long trip. Then we would travel across the world to explore every terrain and culture, and stop at 221 Baker Street for a quick visit. Finally, we’ll settle back to California to rest our hairy, tired feet in the sand.
I would love to take a road trip with Hercule Poirot (Agatha Christie rocks!). I would like to start my road trip with country side villages of England to London. Then driving cross country to Paris, France. ?
I would have to say that I would love to go on a road trip with Celaena Sardothien because she seems like a person who would make a road trip fun. I would love to show her the Grand Canyon, we would sight see at different places along the route from Arizona all the way up to New York City. Something tells me she would know how to make the 2000+ mile trip seem like a few hundred miles. Once we visited NYC, we would jet set off to Paris.
I would absolutely choose Doctor Who (but not Eleven). We could go anywhere in time and space, so I’d let him choose the itinerary. And, yes, there are lots of Doctor Who books.
I would love to travel with Aelin from Throne of glass by Sarah J Mass because I think we would have a lot of fun and adventures together, and we would visit Switzerland, Canada, and go to random forests, and gardens.
I recently read Stardust by Neil Gaiman and would love to adventure with Tristan. I’m imagining a European road trip, starting in southern Germany, a detour to France, then off to Spain!
Hmm.. With whom would I love to travel? I think it would be fascinating to travel with Hermione Granger and hit some awesome historical sights, both in the muggle and the magical world. Imagine all the cool new stuff I would learn?
1) Egypt, the pyramids and the Valley of Kings
2) Hogwarts and Hogsmeade, actually all of wizard London
3) Narnia? Sure!
Road trip with Maya Greenwood from Starhawk’s novels The Fifth Sacred Thing and Walking Toward Mercury. We would hit national parks, live in nature, and attend rallies and demonstrations to save the Earth.
My initial impulse was Dean Winchester, but aside from being probably against the rules (excluding media tie-in novels and any Supernatural fanfiction someone might have given a book binding to, he’s not a book character), roadtripping with him seems like a fundamentally bad idea. So I’m going to go with Hermione Granger. Since that sets me in the UK, I’m going to say we’re going to Stratford-upon-Avon, Cadair Idris in Wales (I am exceedingly fond of the Cadair Idris legend: spend a night on the mountaintop–wake dead, mad, or a poet), and–if we can find it on a map of Scotland–Hogsmeade. If that last doesn’t count because fictional, I’m sure there’s plenty to do in London. Globe Theater for starters.
Joe March from Little Women. We would visit the Book Fair in Frankfurt, a theatre in London and an arts festival, maybe the Edinburgh Fringe.
Sounds crazy but I would reach far back into my reading list and steal Draco Malfoy and take him on a muggle tour of NYC , Paris and Hawaii. in part because he needs to explore something outside his guilded cage and mostly because it would be places i would pick any other time
I would totally road trip with Hermione. She’s brilliant, loves books, and can do magic!!! How could that not make for an amazing road trip?
I like to think we’d go to Alaska, Ireland, and then Ghana. Adventure, history, and community. We’d fly by broomstick or apparate, of course, so no need for our destinations to be drivable distances.
Character: Numair Salmalin from Tamora Pierce’s THE IMMORTALS series.
Destinations: Smithsonian, Yosemite National Park, then traveling overseas to visit Egypt.

I would road trip with Jane Steele. We’d start in London and she could show me her version (I’ve been one time, so this time would be her viewpoint). Then she’d take me to drive the the English countryside that she knows so well. Because she knows it so well. Then we’d hightail it to the Chunnel car train and head to Paris. Because Paris. And I haven’t been in 17 years. And she would be loads of fun anywhere.
I’d like to get Bridget Jones stateside for a road trip. I think her awkwardness and mine would balance nicely and we’d have plenty opportunity to laugh at ourselves. I would love to travel through small town America with her, maybe drive Route 66 and visit all those tiny little roadside attractions. As a big-city Londoner, it would be well outside her comfort zone though. Oh yeah, I’ll drive, no need to risk her missing exits or driving on the wrong side of the road.
Who would I chose? Hmmm… That’s tough. Sandstorm, from Warriors. I’d go to Paris, New York and Florida.
Road trips are an alien concept for me; I’m British, so we don’t have the vast open spaces of the US, or the great distances of Australia. I can hop into a car (With someone else driving, of course. I should be given an award for services to humanity for never taking the wheel because I would be deadly) and drive for six hours, seeing essentially the same dull scenery over and over until I bump into London. Day trips on trains are a much better idea (for me, at least).
That said, if I were to give a road trip a try, I’d drive down to Dover, and then to the Continent. If I’m going on a road trip, I ‘d want to visit Europe, going to Paris, Amsterdam and Munich. My companions would be Hermione Granger, Nanny Ogg (From Sir Terry Pratchett’s Discworld) , and Dante Quintana (From Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe.
Hermione could be an excellent tour guide while Dante is an excellent conversationalist. In fact, the two of them would probably spend hours talking about books, which I just love. Nanny Ogg would come along because of the trip to Munich – during Oktoberfest, of course. She’s one hell of a drinker and geriatric party animal, and would make for a lot of fun.
I would love to have a road trip with Magnus from The Mortal Instruments. I’d like him to show me New York, then we would probably go to Las Vegas, and last but not least Los Angeles.
I would road trip with the hero from “Skye O’Malley”, Niall , Lord Burke! We would travel to his castle in Ireland, then to his townhouse in London, and finally to somewhere warm, like beautiful Hawaii! With someone like him around, I wouldn’t see much of the sights, but I really wouldn’t care ??
I would definitely bring the Weasley twins from the Harry Potter Series. First and for most we’d hit up Japan, then Germany, and last France
I would love to go on a Road Trip with Stephanie Plum from Janet Evanovich’s Plum series. This series is my guilty pleasure. Our first destination would be Trenton, NJ so Stephanie could show me all of the places she frequents, the police station, Cluck in a Bucket, Stark Street, and of course we would have to grab food at Pino’s. After we leave Trenton behind, we would hit the beach. Maybe Atlantic City because it’s close by and she doesn’t usually venture very far from home, but I think Stephanie would be a lot of fun in Miami so that would be my choice. Our third destination would be Key West, because I absolutely love the vibe there. She could help me hunt out some killer real estate for my vacation home. Our vehicle would have to be sporty and convertible. And we would have to take out insurance because Stephanie does not have a good history when it comes to cars. 🙂
I’m currently reading the fourth book in the Pretty Little Liars series, Unbelievable, so I’d take Emily Fields on a roadtrip. Shay Mitchell, the actress who plays her on TV, is one of my crushes.
So I would pick Emily up in “Rosewood”, PA (based on Rosemont, PA).
I Googled “gayest cities in America” to see where she and I would be able to make some queer friends along the way and I picked 3 towns from this list: http://www.advocate.com/print-issue/current-issue/2013/01/09/gayest-cities-america-2013
So we would make stops at Washington DC, St. Louis, and Atlanta.

Does my road trip have to be on this planet? Because I would love a road trip through the galaxy far, far away with Jaina Solo. I’d love to have her show me around the Jedi Academy at Yavin IV, the treetop cities of Kashyyyk, and the underworld of Coruscant since she’s so good at getting lost and exploring all of them! Plus we could travel in style on her dad’s Millennium Falcon.
Alternatively, if we had to stay here on planet Earth, I’d love to explore national parks and nature preserves with Anne Shirley from Anne of Green Gables. We could just spend the trip stopping wherever we saw a particularly pretty stretch of nature and talk poetry and literature as we walked through the woods.
What a fun challenge!
For this challenge I’ve decided to invite Cather from Rainbow Rowell’s Fangirl because we are basically the same person. I’m from the Netherlands so I’ve decided to show her some of the sights:
1. I would take her to see Selexys Dominicanen; a bookstore inside what used to be a church. It’s considered one of the most beautiful bookstores in the whole wide world!
2. We would hit up Amsterdam to sit on the TFIOS-bench. Since Cather is such a bookwurm I’m asuming she has read the tearjerker by John Green and together we would fangirl over the fact that we’d be sitting on the same bench als Ansel Elgort and Shailene Woodley.
3. And finally I would hit up a ‘Boekenfestijn’ which is Dutch for ‘Book Feast’. The Boekenfestijn is a market where you can buy brand new books for basically nothing at all. Prices for Englisch novels barely exceed 3 euro’s. It’s amazing! Cather and I would shop till we dropped!
Character: Anne Shirley. Because she would be highly enjoyable on a road trip!
Destinations: Austin, TX to (McKay Books) Nashville, TN to Prince Edward Island.
I sent the link, but here it is once more 😀

Oh good question! Lila from A Darker Shade of Magic. We would hit Rome, Barcelona, and Paris.
I’ve only read the first book, but I think I’d definitely do a road trip with Percy Jackson! We’d travel all over California! Our destinations would probably look like this:
1. We’d start in California and begin in Hell’s Kitchen (I mean, Percy Jackson is a total bada**, and Hell’s Kitchen just seems like THE place where bada**es go to eat)
2. Then we’d head to Florida and soak up some sun from the sunshine state and hit up some beaches! If I’m travelling with one of Poseidon’s sons, I might as well have him show me some cool water tricks!
3. We’d end our roadtrip in New York and stroll through the city that never sleeps! We could people watch, and perhaps even spot some other demigods lurking around.
I would love to roadtrip with Annabeth from the Percy Jackson series. She’s really smart and very kind. I would like to take her up and down the Oregon coast, which is full of my favorite little haunts and beaches. We could explore all of the epic caves and she could put in a good word with Percy and Poseidon so that we wouldn’t have to worry about sneaker waves or drowning. We would definitely go to Newport for the sea lions, Florence for the Mo’s, and the Hobbit beach for the sand.
I would road trip with Noah Shaw from the Mara Dyer series, because he is bae, and we would go to the Lake District, – for the amazing scenery and the coast – Edinburgh, – for literary scene – and Devon, because the ice cream there is the best.
I read a lot of nonfiction, and one of my favorite books has been Wild by Cheryl Strayed. I’ve always loved hiking, but reading her book has put the Pacific Crest Trail on the top of my bucket list. I would love to share all sorts of adventures with her. Mine wouldn’t be so much a road trip as it would be outdoor adventures on awesome trails in the US. We would, of course, do the PCT together, as well as the Appalachian Trail and then do the Leadville 100 ultramarathon in Leadville, CO.
I’d go on a roadtrip (or, like a flight-trip?!) with Dean from the Off-Campus series. We’d go to Las Vegas just for the fun of it (plus, what happens in Vegas, you know…), to the top of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, to the fjords in Norway and of course we’d also go to Thailand!
I think I would travel with Katherine Forrester from The Small Rain and A Severed Wasp, by Madeleine L’Engle. We would go to Chicago and enjoy a concert by the CSO (Chicago Symphony Orchestra). Then we would travel to New York and take in an opera at the Met. Then we would walk through Greenwich Village and take in the sights.
I would like to go to Rome, Pisa & Verona with Hermione Granger 🙂
Awww your blog is beautiful! 🙂 🙂 and you are currently on a road trip – this is awesome!
I would pick Rose Hathaway from Vampire Academy for a travel buddy. I am sure the amount of adventure that this choice would bring is endless! I would go San Francisco, New York, and Miami. Oh, and New Orleans! I’ve basically told you all the destinations that I am dying to visit in US (I’ve never been to US – but I am working on that!).
I’m reading Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates, so not really a character, but my related dream trip would be for him to show me the Baltimore he knows. Beyond that, I would just want to learn and hear as much as I could. He’s a fantastic writer.
I would go on a cross country road trip with Hermione Granger. We would start off in Seattle, Washington, then head to the French Quarter of New Orleans, Louisiana, and then stop in Orlando, Florida.
I would love to roadtrip with Lucy from the Chronicles of Narnia. She’s just so kind and curious and would see the most interesting things in every place. It would be quite a long roadtrip but I’d love to visit Yosemite National Park with her, then head towards Carlsbad Caverns and explore all the caves, then end in New Orleans, La because I feel she would just love the stories and energy of the people there.
Augustus McCray from Lonesome Dove. Vegas because he loves gambling and debauchery, Texas to see his old stomping grounds, Capri Italy because it’s on my bucket list
I’d love to road trip with Tandy Angel, I think we’d have fun and get into some interesting spots. I’d want to stop in Vegas-she has money to spend! NYC- shopping spree! and Venice Beach to work on a tan.
I would take Bella Swan from Twilight to Los Angeles, Honolulu and Sydney in the hopes that some sunshine will CHEER HER UP!!!
I’d take MacKayla Lane from the Fever series and have her show me her favorite bars where she grew up and then we’d explore the country to find our own.
I’d chose Levi from Fangirl and not only because I’d chose him for anything and everything but also because he seems so easy to get along with and would make the best road trip companion, like, EVER. (I’m totally serious here – he’s a great conversationalist, works at starbucks – discount!, and probably is down to listen to whatever). I’d want to do all the american tourist things with Levi – Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Empire State Building – anything! He’s not the type to be embarrassed about taking cheesy photos and that’s all I ask for.
I would love to travel with Vianne, a character from The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah and we would visit the Atlantic shore from the eastern side of this continent. Then we could go being like tourists to a bunch of public gardens where we could explore the beautiful nature, and lastly and most importantly we would go to the Holocaust Museum in Washington D.C.
