Five dishonored soldiers.Former Special Forces. One last mission. These are the men of Hard Ink. Ever since hard-bodied, drop-dead-charming Shane McCallan strolled into the dance club where Crystal Dean works, he’s shown a knack for getting beneath her defenses. For her little sister’s sake, Crystal can’t get too close. Until her job and Shane’s mission intersect, and he reveals talents that go deeper than she could have guessed. Shane would never turn his back on a friend in need, especially a former Special Forces teammate running a dangerous, off-the-books operation. Nor can he walk away from Crystal. The gorgeous waitress is hiding secrets she doesn't want him to uncover. Too bad. He’s exactly the man she needs to protect her sister, her life, and her heart. All he has to do is convince her that when something feels this good, you hold on as hard as you can—and never let go.

First Thought when Finished: Hard as You Can by Laura Kaye was a 4.5 star read up till the last few chapters and even then it was still thrilling. (more below in spoiler brackets)

Quick Thoughts: The overall storyline of this series is really engaging. It is hard to fathom that so far by the end of this book it has barely been a week. The action, pacing, and story is intense and fast paced. That part I LOVE. The romance is intense and sexy. That being said the get to know you to “I love you” reminds me a bit of the movie “Speed”. You know that line “relationships that begin in intense situations”? I will buy the “I love you’s” as the series goes on but right now they are more in the moment emotions to me. Nothing wrong with that just not totally sold. The intense connection between the couples is real though and that is good enough for me.

    • I do love her pacing and her way of writing the connections between the couples. I just finished Marz’s book last night and really loved him and Em!

  1. I have three of these books waiting for me to read. I need to get to them ASAP! Great review, couldn’t help looking at the spoilers though. Lol. Bad me.

  2. OMG, would you please slow down on the reviews already!! You’re giving me whiplash 😛

I peaked at the spoiler, too, and I would have had a problem with that, too. It makes the romance not so natural. I was going to say inorganic but I don’t think that’s a word. I need coffee b/c I’m starting to make words up at 3:00 in the afternoon and that is never good.

Great review!! Exactly what I was expecting for this book and kind of why I put this series down.

    • LOL I am actually behind I swore this year I would stay on top of it but Noooooooooooooooooooooooo that isn’t happening.

All of them are this way. On a whole it doesn’t bother me (I really liked Speed until they made Speed 2 and proved her point) but with this one it was that one element.

    • I mean I know it is romance and that it is going to happen. Just those type of issues can’t be solved with the magic peen. Then again maybe they can LOL
