Hi y’all! If you have been on here for any given length of time, you know I am a huge supporter of Libraries. Since it is National Library week, I thought I would share one of the reasons I support my libraries: Librarians.
Librarians have been my superheroes since I was a little girl. I grew up in a really small town (under 1200 people). We had a public library but it was really small (and all donated books) so you were at the whim of what the people of the town wanted to donate. However, we had a really well stocked school library. From the earliest time that I can remember, I pretty much lived in my school library! Our school librarian knew and supported my love of reading. She paid attention and knew when I was reading beyond my grade level. She let me read beyond those assigned to my grade level and answered questions along the way. She talked to my parents (who were like–if she can read it, then let her do it) and boom the rest was history. When I was a teenager (Jr. High), she worked to get me a library card in the closest biggest city that we went to on weekends for groceries. Once that happened, I found out that other Librarians were just as awesome. They nurtured, suggested, and fed my love of reading. They helped me research the places that I would read about in my stories and point out other tidbits that they thought I would find interesting. It was their encouragement to know more about the world outside my little neck of the woods that taught me empathy, adventure, cultural differences, and to think outside the box. Without them, I would not be the person I am today.
How has a Librarian changed your life?
During her non-reading time you can find her hanging with her rescue furr children named after book characters: Lizzie a beautiful cattle dog mix (Pound Pup), Cinder a beautiful Shep/Pitt mix (Pound Pup), and Minerva a beautiful Shep/Pitt mix (Foster Fail). Gathering with friends and family, attending conventions, watching movies/tv shows, rooting for the 49rs, and crocheting.
