Welcome to #FitReaders hosted by Geeky Bloggers Book Blog and That’s What I’m Talking About.
It is time to commit to exercise for the month of January 2016 ! Whether you are just joining us, need to get back on the wagon, or just going to keep up your progress from last year– now is the time to stand up and say “I’m in! I’m committed to getting up and getting moving!”
Also new feature this year: Virtual 5K/10K races
What is a Virtual 5k? This Virtual 5k is organized online and FitReaders from all over the world can compete. Where it is different from a traditional 5K is that you are responsible for completing the walk/run at any place you desire, at any time during the race timeframe that works for you. For this series, each race will need to be completed between the first and last day of the month. You will need to take a picture at the end of the race (not of your face if you don’t want but your time, song list, ect) and post it either on FB, Twitter, or your check-in. Then add your name to the finish line page for Jan so that I can keep track for end of the year medals. Grab your virtual ribbon so that you can display it proudly on your check-ins. If at the end of the year you have completed 10 of the 12 races–you will get a medal
So are you ready to commit to fit? Remember there will be weekly check-ins, motivation on twitter (#FitReaders), and FitBit Challenges (My Fitbit: //www.fitbit.com/user/242M56)
Let’s get this month started by adding your link down below!

I know I am running four months late on joining up for this, but I just started doing my workouts and thought I would sign up!!
Hello Felicia, exercises is very helpful in getting fit and healthy life. I really enjoyed your blog. Thanks for sharing such nice blog..
Working on all around fitness for 2016. Want to be able to compete in my Ultra Pistol squat contest in 2017, balance, and core strength.
2016 will be interesting.
I am scared just thinking of that 🙂
I wanted to participate in this last year, but I didn’t learn about it until very late in the year. I mostly walk/run, but I want to start incorporating some more things into my routine, and this seems like a good way to keep motivated. 🙂
First time, signing up a bit late but I am here! I have a half marathon in just 2 weeks, so I’ll be doing a lot of walking/jogging/running. Hopefully reading while on the stairmaster too! After that, hoping to just maintain a healthy walking/jogging distance daily 🙂
Jen is my inspiration and support. I started in August 2015, (partly after noticing that Jen’s ankles looked fit in a Twitter photo) did well, and then my “taking it easy for the holidays” led to “losing almost all my progress from four months of work”. Back to the ol’ drawing board. I’m not sure how a mile converts to a kilometer (I’m north of the border) but I’m willing to walk it!
*blushes* You are too kind. I look to this group for support so often. Felicia (unknowingly) got me though a tough period in my life and her posts inspired me to make a change. I’m forever grateful and so glad I can pass it forward. *HUGS*
Okay. Signed up. Now to get moving. Couch to 5k for me! 🙂
I’m anxious to get back on track after my break from surgery, not to mention not going to the gym for months because of the new job. I’m taking it slow – I’m sure I’ll get 10k steps a day starting Wednesday because of school, but the gym I’m just going for 3 days week, water Aerobics (keeping it light). Good luck with your goals – I’m married to my fitbit anymore, it’d be hard to let it go.
YAY I’m in again, looking forward to another year with all of you. Will be back posting next week, internet isn’t playing nice grrr
Thank you for this page—and also for answering my email the other day. I’m IN! Hopefully for the whole year.
I appreciate the both of you for hosting. Last year I did not make my exercise goals consistently, but I did make healthy life styles changes that I felt good about. So, I am in, though I am shocked and horrified that last year passed so quickly. Happy 2016.
I’m so excited to try this out again in 2016! I don’t know if I’ll get my virtual 5K done this month but I’m going to try.
Alright, I’m in! It is my fitness goal for this year to run a full 5k, so this challenge will be perfect for me! I don’t have a fitbit, but I can still keep track of my workouts, and my distance/time when I walk/run. 🙂 I’m excited to have something to keep me accountable!
Cool, I’m game! So for the virtual 5k, is the goal to do all 5 kilometers in one session? Or if we’re still working up to that, could we split it across a few days?
I will work with those that aren’t up to 5k all at once quite yet. Mostly I just want you push past your comfort zone a wee bit and back to back those days if needed 🙂
I’m in for January. Not sure what I’ll link to. I’m not posting on the blog but I’m rejoining the FB group and will post stuff on Instagram.
I guess I’ll save Sundays for posting for the week.
We have lots of non-bloggers participating this time. You can totally link to FB or Twitter 🙂 🙂
I commit to 12k steps per day., 30 minutes of puppy walking per day, and going to the gym at least twice per week. I have the too cold to hold 5k on the 31st, hoping to run most of it.
I will be cheering for you! I am not signing up for 5ks till March because of my foot. Hopefully though by then I will be doing at least one a month (outside the house)—inside the house I will be doing at least one a month 🙂
I decided to get one per month in, just waiting on the Paddy Dash to post so Vivian can get her run in.
I know you will be back in the swing once you heal up.
I’ve been looking for a challenge to get me back out running! I don’t have a FitBit, just an old Garmin watch that doesn’t record steps, so not sure how I’m going to record anything but the monthly race – but that’s enough to get me motivated! 🙂
I am not using my fitbit at all this January 🙂 I am tracking my workout sessions instead—for the 5k I am doing a Walk at Home 5k program 🙂 However you can track it is fine with me—fitbit not required!
I think fitbit has a phone app that you can use to record your steps even without an actual fitbit.
I’m in. I will moan and grumble my way through it about hating running, but I’ll do it ?
LOL we accept grumbling, cussing, and occasional foot stomping 🙂
I am so in for this. Rob and I set an year-long mileage goal challenge for ourselves, so this is perfect. I am totally going to kick his butt! 🙂 I don’t have a FitBit; I have an Apple Watch, but I’ll try to remember to do the checkins.
Go Girl! Go—-Kick his butt 🙂 🙂
So excited for another great year!!
Me too 🙂 We can kick 2016 in the hiney 🙂
So excited for the new year.
Me too 🙂 🙂 Good luck this year with all your fitness goals 🙂
I’m in and I’m so excited for the virtual races – what a great way to add a little something extra each month!!!
I think it will be a fun extra challenge. If it works out this year then next year I will get fancier medals–though I do like these 🙂
I’m in again for 2016, not so sure about the 5km races but certainly for the general exercise. This sure keeps me going.
Awesome! The races are just for those that want the extra challenge. First and foremost should just be meeting your own fitness goals.
I totally commit to cheering you on! 😉
Go Flea Go!
And I totally appreciate it 🙂
So just to make sure. Can I do the 5k over a period of three days if I wanted to because I don’t think I’ll be able to run/walk 3.1 miles right away?
I’m in once again. I’m going to do a monthly link up but will check in weekly in comments. Good luck to everyone!
The races really are supposed to be done in one outing but if you are physically unable to do that then I will totally work with you on that 🙂 They are optional anyway but they are a fun bonus challenge.
Can’t wait to see your progress this year.
I am in 🙂
WOOT WOOT!
I’m in for January. Just got a new Fitbit for Christmas, (my fitbit: http://www.fitbit.com/user/3YQ9T) I’m looking forward to participating this year.
WOOT WOOT! You are going to kick booty 🙂
I am in. Will do better when we get back on the road. I want in on the challenges too Felicia
I am so jelly of your road trips 🙂
We’d love to join in and get active with you all.
Welcome aboard! We really are just a good supportive group 🙂
I’m all excited to join you guys this year 🙂
Excited to have you 🙂 🙂
Love being part of this!!
I love seeing everyone support each other 🙂
THis is my favorite event to join. It’s so low pressure but the Twitter check-in’s remind me to stay on track. I need to do more stretching/flexibility this year.
We have a nice walking trail that has a 5K path so I’ll try to do that – at least int he winter months when it’s cooler.
WOOT WOOT! I am happy to hear that 🙂 🙂 I am totally taking advantage of our 5k trails during the cooler temps and when it gets hotting I will Leslie Sansone it 🙂
I’m planning to be better this year. I wasn’t horrible with my steps, but I wasn’t good with my checkins. I also quit Daily Burn, which I just started back up. Plus, I hope that I will be able to ride again in the Spring with my new horse. Here’s to a great 2016!
Good luck! We can totally reach out goals 🙂
Excited to join!!
Excited your joining!
I am in… My current job (thats my nice way of hoping 2016 brings a new one) will be crazy but I will get the miles in! I am super excited to have people on this journey with me. Lean in 2016!!!
WOOT WOOT 🙂 See you at bookclub~
I am in for Jan! I won’t be doing the races till mid-January after my foot is healed. Totally ready to kick this years BUTT!
