From Goodreads:  For seventeen-year-old Aurora Lahey, survival is a lifestyle.

Aurora has the crappiest superpower on the planet. And it’s just unleashed a hit squad from hell. Demons are on the hunt, salivating to carve her carcass into confetti.

The Hex Boysβ€”mysterious, hunky, and notorious for their trails of destructionβ€”have the answers Aurora needs to survive. But their overload of deadly secrets and suspicious motives makes trusting them a potentially fatal move.

The battle to save her family, herself, and stop demonic domination may cost Aurora everything worth living for, and force her to reveal her own dark secrets. But no worries. She needs the Hex Boys to pull this off, and, chances are, teaming up with these guys will get her killed anyway

First thought when finished: What a witty, clever, well-balanced first effort by A&E Kirk!

What I Loved: OMG I just want to hug the Kirks for including parents, family, and friends into the story! It was beyond fantastic to read a story that included everyone without cutting away Aurora’s ability to be a Demon Hunter. I really loved the witty dialogue, the pacing (a little uneven in the middle but nothing to distracting), and how the story unfolded through the character’s actions and words. FINALLY, the best part is NO LOVE TRIANGLE! I am so jumping up and down with joy at this.

What I Liked: Aurora is a smart, witty, intelligent gal who truly acts like someone her age would if they had a ton of extreme responsibility. I liked that at times she faltered, didn’t quite know how to act, and was able to lean on people when needed. Her relationship with the Hex Boys (very fun characters in their own right) was the perfect mix of friendship and frustration for her. I do believe as the series continues the ability to see her grow more confident in both her abilities and judgement should be fun to watch.

What made me go huh?: There were no downsides to this novel other than a few pacing issues. I believe that was a combo of wanting to set a scene and really draw us in. Now that we are familiar with this world, I believe those will be gone in book 2. Also, I am expecting that we will get to learn more about Aurora’s family and The Hex Boys. This was our chance to get to know Aurora really well so again not a huge complaint.

Final Thought: Even though I am not the target reader for this book, I did enjoy it thoroughly!

I would like to be strong and a great fighter so I can kick some Demon butt. Thanks for giveaway! This book sounds like a great read. It's on my TBR list. Can't wait to read.-Maritza R

  2. books first love

If I was a Demon Hunter, hmmm. I think the power of sensing the demons from a faraway distance would be great.thanks

  3. Tiffany Mahaffy

I would have to go with the speed thing too but because you would need that edge on Demons. Strength… Need that to kick butt too! Thank you for the giveaway!

  4. Andra

Telekinesis would be fabulous…or fire…lots of fire *grins evilly* lol πŸ™‚ Thanks for the chance to win!andralynn7@

  5. delia

I think I'd go with invisibility so i could do one of 2 things: run like hell (I'm so with you on this one) or attack him when he least expects it :DThanks so much for the giveaway!

  6. Serene

I would like to have the power to materialize and wield any weapons I want, and control them using telekinesis! πŸ˜€

I would have to say If I was a Demon Hunter, I would want Super Healing Powers so that if I got hurt, I wouldn't be hurt for long.

  8. Felicia Sparks

YEP! The pacing wasn't bad just uneven but the smartness of the writing more than made up for it!

I would love to freeze time! I could get sooooo much done and still have time to lounge around to read πŸ™‚

Oh I want this one. πŸ™‚ Thank you for the review. Now what power I would want…the ability to make and control water or rain. ;D It seems everyone thinks demons have fire, so what better to put it out with than water. Or water hitting at strong force could be painful as well. ;D Thank you!

If I were a Demon Humter, it would be cool to move faster than light, to allow you to move as fast as a Vamp does.

  12. Margay

Invisibility. Wouldn't it be cool to just disappear when the situation looks hopeless, to blend so well into the background no one can find you, not even a demon?

  13. Missie, The Unread R

Yeah, I felt the pacing issues too, but overall, I had a blast with this book. I'm so glad you did too!

I would want the ability to heal.Fighting demons your bound to get hurt,so healing quick would be a necessity. I am really looking forward to reading this.

  15. Heidi

Him super powers well flying, invisibilty and a holy water flame thrower would be helpful. Also some kick butt boots!

  16. Jen (In the Closet W

Do you remember that show with Evie where she could put her fingers together to freeze time and then hands together to unfreeze time? Out of this World, I think it was called. I LOVED that show growing up. Wanted to freeze time so I could sleep longer, LOL! I'm a nerd. Now, if I had a special power, I have no idea what it would be. Transport would be cool because there are so many people I want to visit. But I'm stumped.

  17. Felicia Sparks

hehe and I even enjoyed it! πŸ™‚ I have now read 2 this year–pop open the champagne πŸ™‚

  18. Anne

When you start thinking about it, there's so many I'd like. The ability to transport myself since I hate to fly would be great.

  19. Shae Carcar

I would want to be a god in close combat! (is that even a superpower) Hmm… I guess extreme agility and kick-ass-ness. I think it's so attractive when a woman knows how to fight and can kick someone's butt who's like 3x larger than they are! Thanks for the giveaway!Shae @ Understanding Shae's Story

I would like to be able to heal quickly. I'd also like to fly, but if I can only have one, I just want to make sure I can heal quickly. I think it'd be pretty important.Heather

Like you, I loved the combination of Aurora as a strong main character and all the humor that was present as well. This book definitely kept me laughing!Kudos for going YA, Felicia! I know it's not typically your niche!

  22. Melissa (Books and T

Nice review! YaY! You read a YA!!! :)My power? To conjure up my man harem to whisk me away. Okay, not good demon hunting skills, but by then I would have forgotten about the demon. LOL

  23. Denise Z

This is a new title for me and sounds like a hoot and I would love to read it. I am definitely with you on the supper speed – I want to be able to run like . . . LOL

  24. Blodeuedd

Do I have to fight demons? *hides* I want the power to summon awesome warriors to fight them for me while I hide

  25. Chantaal

So excited to check out this book!I'd love to have invulnerability if I were a demon hunter, it just sounds practicall. πŸ™‚

  26. Sariah

I think I would like the power of teleportation or speed. Not sure which one I would like more. Thanks for a chance. I think this book sounds amazing.

  27. Aurian

As a demon hunter, I would of course be a fearless and great fighter, but I think healing superfast would come in handy! Even the greatest fighters get wounded now and then.

  28. Kris-10

If I were a demon hunter I would want to have heightened senses. That way I would never be caught unawares and I'll also be able to better defend myself. πŸ˜‰

  29. Prangon: The Nerd In

I have been seeing a lot of reviews about this book and the book cover is so pretty! If I were a demon hunter I would want to have the power to magically transform lethal weapons out of thin air, yup that should do the trick πŸ˜‰

  30. LunaMoth

If i were a demon hunter i would want the ability of paralysis. i would want to stop the demons but not stop my fun of hunting them all together!

  31. Aik

If I were a Demon Hunter, I would want to have the power of stopping time. Then I would be able to freeze the demons and kill them easily.aikychien at yahoo dot com

  32. Smash Attack!

I've been seeing this book everywhere! It sounds like a lot of fun and I am quite intrigued by these Hex Boys. :)If I were a Demon Hunter, I think I would want invincibility…? Ok, that might be cheating. Maybe the ability to fly or become invisible. Or wield magic from the earth, or have an icy disposition, since many demons aren't fans of the cold. πŸ™‚
