The dark and dangerous follow-up that continues the adventures of a magical tattoo artist begun in Angel's Ink

In a world where elves, faeries, trolls, werewolves, and vampires swim free in a sea of humanity, sometimes you need an edge. Looking for a little love? Need some luck? Desperate for revenge? Gage can give you what you need. The most talented tattoo artist in town, he knows the right symbol and the right mix of ingredients and ink to achieve your heart's desire. One tattoo is all it takes. But remember, everything has its price. . . .

Gage learned that lesson long ago, in ways he'd rather not remember. But the cruel and powerful wizards in the dreaded Ivory Towers he escaped aren't about to let him forget. Though Gage has managed to stay out of sight, he can't outrun the past forever.

The wizards know Gage is using forbidden magic, and they intend to punish him for his transgressions. Too bad if innocent humans and monsters-entire cities-get in the way. They will quell a nascent magical uprising and Gage will be the sacrifice they need. First, though, they have to find him . .

NOTE: I did originally get this from Edelweiss but did not download it in time for review. I purchased my own copies through Amazon/Audible.

First Thought when Finished: Dead Man’s Deal by Jocelynn Drake was excellent! This series is now on my must buy as released list!

Story Thoughts: Oh Gage! You are the king of getting yourself tangled up in the most impossible situations. Granted you always do it because you want to protect those you love BUT man this time you got yourself tangled up in all sorts of madness. Dead Man’s Deal is all about what would you do for the people you love! The fact is, Gage will do anything for them. There was tons of action, suspense, and moments of “oh crap”. This series is shaping up to be one of my favorites!

Character Thoughts: I love the characters of The Asylum Tales. Gabe, Bronx (wasn’t enough of him), Trixie, Sofie, and Gideon. They are where Jocelynn Drake SHINES! You care about them! You root for them! You cry and scream at them! Overall you just want to become part of their world and hang out with them. I really do love them all! In Dead Man’s Deal though it was Sofie who made my heart grow 10x!

Audio Thoughts:

Narrated by: Michael Urie /Length: 11 hrs and 50 mins

I love Michael Urie’s narration of Dead Man’s Deal (with the exception of his voice for Trixie). He is spot on with Gage, Bronx, Sofie, and Gideon. His pacing is fantastic and the emotion is perfectly suited to the story. Trixie, the voice for her is just a little to over the top for my taste.

Final Thoughts: I need the next one NOW!

    • It is awesome! UF with a little bit of romance. Really though it has all the elements: fae, wizards, witches, and trolls (I love the Troll)!

  1. I have heard good things about this series, but don’t know why I haven’t read it nor why I hadn’t added to my TBR, but I just fixed that, I added Angel’s Ink to my TBR. Now I need to decide if to read the book or listen to the audiobook.

    • It really is good! I didn’t know what to expect with Angel’s Ink but I really enjoyed it! The audio is excellent—Trixie sounds a bit like a drag queen but everyone else is awesome πŸ™‚

    • They are good and different! I think I love it because there are tons of different magical characters. Plus Gage is awesome! I am in love with Bronx though!

  2. I know! That Gage. He’s too good of a guy. A lesser man would have packed up and left all that crap behind. But he just can’t!

  3. wow this sounds really good. Does Edelweiss have audibles? I think I would like this on audio. I am not ready to do romances, but think Urban fantasy is awesome and yeah Gage sounds yummy!

    • Nope but Tantor audio does some through Edelweiss. Plus I heard a rumor that a few more audiobook distributors are thinking of using it. That would be super awesome πŸ™‚
