Cracktastic Reads

What is Cracktastic Reading? For me, it is when I basically baseline a series as soon as I can get my hands on the books. It is also when I get to a stopping point and go “holy hell did I just fall back to the 80s/90s with the super Alpha Men and the head/desk leading lady” (my head to the desk but OH MY GOD)!

This is Part 2 of my Cracktastic Reading Journey with Kristen Ashley! Part 1 is here!

Overall this series was a little funnier and a whole lot more consistent on the enjoyable scale. That being said I have only read the first 6 because the epilogue at the end of 6 was a good enough wrap up for me. I might read the other 2 if they spin-off series happens but right now I am happy with knowing where everyone is and how they are doing. With the exception of Darius. I really need Darius to have a book!

Oh these I actually read in order so you series “purist” can unball from in the corner πŸ™‚

What I thought: Lee is the WHOLE reason I went in search of this series (1 of 2 reasons–Vance being the other) and I was not disappointed. Was he over the top Alpha? YEP! Did Indy drive me crazy? YEP! Were they hot together? YEP! Did I love the Rock Chicks drama llama–oddly yes! Seriously I could hang with these gals in a Jane type of way πŸ™‚

The humor though is what makes this series shine. Over the top FUNNY!

What I thought: Jet was a bit annoying but I still oddly liked her. I had more of a problem with Eddie though he did grow on me. I just never fell in love with him. I loved Daisy though–she is my Elvira of this group. She makes everything better! Seriously, it is like my favorite characters are just never gonna get the full book they deserve πŸ™

Overall Thoughts: All these freaking women are the same size and all have back up hot guys that will take over if their current doesn’t want step up. *SIGH* that is a bit annoying because later I will feel like that guy is settling! I did love Roxie and Hank though. They were a GREAT FIT!

Part of a Series Review:

Overall Thoughts: I admit that Vance was the other reason I looked for this series and I was blown away. This was my favorite read in the 12 books I have read by Kristen Ashley. This just hit on all cylinders: imperfect leading guy, feisty but cool leading lady (JULES ROCKED), great side kicks, and emotional wallop! Yep Yep Yep! My favorite!

Quotes I marked while reading:

β€œShe’s a badass motherfuckeress. She’d kick your ass soon as look at you. You’ve clapped your eyes on The Law. Count yourself lucky, sucker. Now, what’ll it fuckin’ be?”

Rock Chick Revenge by Kristen Ashley

Read for Fun (Kindle)
Overall Rating: 2.75
Story Rating: 2.50
Character Rating: 3.00

Overall Thoughts: I am in the minority where Rock Chick Revenge by Kristen Ashley is concerned. Everybody else LURVED it!.

It had my least favorite troupe ever though: Girl loses weight and get the guy (and then like 4 more falling all over her). I think it demeans both characters but that is just me. Otherwise the action was great! The humor was there and freaking hilarious! The over the top TSTL combined with Spirit (which I normally hate but oddly works for this series) was there. Luke was hot!

I also noticed that this where that other trend of introducing a guy that will be a love interest later trying to get the gal in the book that is not his really started to grate on my nerves. Luke with Roxie and Jules. Vance with Roxie. Now Ren with Ava. I am not a huge fan of that because it makes it seem like they are settling later. I couldn’t blame Ava when she blew her top in this book and I think she got over it a little too quick. Hopefully I won’t feel that way when Ren’s book comes up.

07/03 39.0% “Also does every woman in here have to be the same exact size. I mean it is like you can’t get one of these guys unless you can borrow Tod’s clothes. Like I said a trigger subject for me.”

Rock Chick Reckoning by Kristen Ashley

Read for Fun (Kindle)
Overall Rating : 3.50
Story Rating : 3.75
Character Rating : 3.25

Overall Thoughts: Well this ends my Rock Chick journey (for now) because the epilogue gave me enough closure to move on. I will pick it up again if the spin off happens. I did like Stella and Mace but I didn’t love them. I couldn’t blame her for being mad but I also couldn’t blame him for not pushing. I hate when people do “break up” tests so that whole thing really made me not care for them as a couple. I did like their chemistry and in the end I was thrilled they were happy!

I do have her other Colorado series on my wishlist at the library. Eventually I will read them but I think I am in a happy place with this addiction for now. Overall these were very “crack” reads: totally alpha, not always likable traits, and TSTL moments galore yet they were easy to read, fun, and couldn’t put them down. Totally recommend them for escapism reading!

I started with the Colorado series, then moved on to the Burg, then the Dream Man series, then Rock Chicks and lastly Chaos (Oh, also the Unfinished Hero series in there somewhere). Each time I’d think, “Based on the blurb I don’t think I’m going to like this” and then I’d glom the whole series. I can’t say why her books are addicting but they are!

  2. I blew through this series, too! Definitely cracktastic. It did get a little annoying when she reintroduced Every. Single. Character. Every. Single. Time. A quick reference…all good.

    • YES! Plus they all can wear Tod’s clothes and you have to know every single thing they wear, eat, and how they decorate their homes (even hotel room LOL)

  3. I think cracktastic reads for me are ones that I want but are SO BAD for me. LOL I can see these as good cracktastic reads. πŸ˜€ I’m glad you had fun with them even though they didn’t all “rock”. See what I did there. πŸ˜‰

    • The Burg is the ones that I am on hold for (I am like 8th in line–these aren’t even new) –I have heard they are a bit more emotional πŸ™‚

I loved the Colorado series and for sure, if you liked Rock Chicks, you’ll like Co. And I just finished her latest, Ride Steady. Loved it! The Colorado series will be waiting for you when you’re ready. πŸ˜‰ I have some of hers waiting for me, too!
