Cover Girls Book Club

Last night was my other local bookclub (Cover Girls) meeting. While I did not get to attend because of the plague (aka my flu that has moved into a nasal infection), I have heard it was a total blast!  We meet the 2nd Tuesday of every month in the Frisco TX area. If you are interested in coming just shoot me an email and I will get you added to the evite. It is a lot of fun with some really great gals!

Since I don’t have a recap of what the gals thought of the books–I will share what we read last month and then get to next month’s choices!

Joining the army saved Ben from sinking into bitterness, but seeing Elin again takes him back to the day they surrendered to their intoxicating desire.

Desperado by Lisa BinghamDesperado by Lisa Bingham

Elam Taggart knows about the nickname town gossips have given him: Desperado. He doesn’t care. He’s lost just about everything: his wife, his parents, his little sister, and his career as a Navy EOD specialist. After returning home, he hightails it to the rugged Wasatch Mountains outside town.

But when his brother comes asking for help, Elam can’t say no. That is, until Elam realizes that in order to help, he’ll be forced to spend time with town newcomer P.D. Raines. P.D. knows that asking Elam Taggart to be her partner in the town’s upcoming Wild West Games is a mistake. But she needs the prize money, and Elam is lean, hard, and tortured—a dangerous combination she can’t seem to resist.

As the competition heats up—to the point of peril—Elam and P.D. have to turn away from the past and embrace the passion that sparks between them in order to escape the threat to their lives.

Bitter Night by Diana Pharaoh FrancisBitter Night by Diana Pharaoh Francis

Once, Max dreamed of a career, a home, a loving family. Now all she wants is freedom…and revenge. A witch named Giselle transformed Max into a warrior with extraordinary strength, speed, and endurance. Bound by spellcraft, Max has no choice but to fight as Giselle’s personal magic weapon—a Shadowblade—and she’s lethally good at it. But her skills are about to be put to the test as they never have before….

The ancient Guardians of the earth are preparing to unleash widespread destruction on the mortal world, and they want the witches to help them. If the witches refuse, their covens will be destroyed, including Horngate, the place Max has grudgingly come to think of as home. Max thinks she can find a way to help Horngate stand against the Guardians, but doing so will mean forging dangerous alliances—including one with a rival witch’s Shadowblade, who is as drawn to Max as she is to him—and standing with the witch she despises. Max will have to choose between the old life she still dreams of and the warrior she has become, and take her place on the side of right—if she survives long enough to figure out which side that is….

    • I read the Historical and while it was not my favorite Cathy Maxwell book–it did introduce the characters for the rest of the series which I think are going to ROCK!
