His estate is saddled with debt, and the late earl's three innocent sisters are still occupying the house . . . along with Kathleen, Lady Trenear, a beautiful young widow whose sharp wit and determination are a match for Devon's own.
A clash of wills . . .
Kathleen knows better than to trust a ruthless scoundrel like Devon. But the fiery attraction between them is impossible to deny—and from the first moment Devon holds her in his arms, he vows to do whatever it takes to possess her. First Thought when Finished: While I feel that too much of Cold-Hearted Rake centered on laying the groundwork for the rest of the series, it did have characters I loved and an ending that I adored!
Quick Thoughts: This was a really good book! The main leads were both strong, stubborn, and really easy to like. Devon was a total Rake but an oddly lovable one. Kathleen was strong enough to handle him. Actually my biggest complaint with the story was there wasn’t enough time spent on them. I don’t think the rest of the series will suffer from that though because we have a pretty good picture of the rest of the motley crew. I am really looking forward to the next book!
Audio Thoughts:
Narrated By Mary Jane Wells / Length: 11 hrs and 3 mins
I have said it before but Mary Jane is probable one of my favorite historical romance narrators. I just love her voice, cadence, and spunk! Yes I said spunk! Most historical leading ladies have a bit of spunk that makes them different from their peers and Mary Jane delivers that well.

Thanks for sharing! It can be difficult when a book is so obviously setting up a series. You feel like you don’t get enough of certain aspects. Glad you liked the characters though!

Ohh, I should try it 😀
Hmm… I wish I could really get into historical romances. Maybe I just haven’t tried the right one.
Love her HR’s
Yippee! I have the audiobook but am unfamiliar with the narrator. Thank you for the review and I’ll now bump this up.
Mary Jane Wells does some of Cathy Maxwell’s audiobooks and knocks them out of the park. She is seriously becoming my favorite Avon Audiobook Historical Romance narrator.
I need to check out this narrator and see what she is like. This book sound good.
She is really one of my favorites 🙂
I think I want to read this simply because the heroine’s name is Kathleen- and Kathleen’s in fiction are not always easy to come by!
She really was fun. This wasn’t my favorite book by Lisa but I didn’t dislike it. I just don’t see me rereading it 🙂
