Howdy Y’all!
This weekend I totally got all my Christmas Shopping DONE! I also got 70% of my Christmas Wrapping done (went old school paper/ribbons/bows instead of bags). Finally I decided after seeing pictures of Book Christmas Trees that I would create my own. It was a total blast! My Christmas Book Tree is full of Vampires, Zombies,Killers, and Romance –oh my.
I am technically around from now till the 21st but will probably not be very active. Without going into much detail, I have been in a bit of a social funk for a couple of weeks and I just need to recharge. This applies to online and in person. This is totally the wrong season to get into one of these funks but I have no idea how to get out of it without acknowledging it. So, in an effort to acknowledge the funk and move on–I am just going to go with my mood and be a little anti-social.
I am officially taking a blogging break from Dec 21st to Jan 3rd! I will schedule Top Off Tuesday posts but I wont’ be around the blogsphere at all. I am going to be doing family things and then flying to Omaha, NE for New Years!
2013 is going to be a bit old school on the blog. I have a few outstanding requests from Edelweiss and NetGalley I plan on fulfilling but otherwise it will be the year of tackling my TBR. I won’t be buying many books next year either so it will be a bunch of older reads. I could almost call next year the “Year of Books Published before 2013″ (except for those few outstanding requests and series books that will be coming out). This is due to budget and the fact that I have entirely to many unread books on my shelves that need some love. I will probably only be doing the series challenge from Kelly and Amanda next year. It seems to fit in with what the blog will be like already. Yes, that is a bit of a cheat challenge but at least I didn’t sign up for an audiobook challenge. That would totally be cheating.
In case I don’t speak to you before the New Years–I hope everyone has a very Happy Holiday Season and a WONDERFUL NEW YEAR!

Right there with you on old school on the blog….I have so many books on my TBR, I feel like an injustice has been done to them because they sit on my shelf while I read new ones. I’ve made it a mission to start reading them, for better or for worse.
And PS: everyone is allowed to be in a social funk from time to time! I go through it, too, a lot actually.
Get your holidays on, girl!
Your tree looks so awesome! If I didn’t have extreme OCD with my books I would totally attempt this. Sometimes a break can help kick a funk like nothing else! I hope that (if I don’t talk to you before then) your holidays are great and your new year is everything you hope it to be!!
I made a book tree too. I haven’t posted the picks yet though.
I can relate to the antisocial deal. I have gone through that before and you have to do what you have to do for now.
I love that your going old school. It sounds like you are doing the things that you need to do to take care before burnout. When I blogged in the past, the joy of reading was falling short as I fulfilled a never ending list of commitments. I fell into burnout and am only reading books that are on my TBR or books that I have requested myself.
With so many books that I have still not read, I look forward to your posts in 2013. I would hate to pass up great older reads just because I am solely focused on new releases.
Enjoy your holiday break.
OMG, I love your tree! Completely and totally awesome!! We’re going to miss you for the next couple of weeks, but definitely understand. Enjoy your break and read TONS of great books off that TBR! smiles…
I love your book tree! I’m in a funk myself but I don’t really know what kind or what to call it. I’m going to focus on getting myself organized and ready for the new year so I don’t feel such guilt when I’m slacking on the blog. Hope you are enjoying the Holiday season.
I LOVE that you’re going Old School next year!!! I’ve been thinking about doing that, too, because the fact is, all those books on my shelves are just getting older and older sitting on my shelves not getting read. I can’t go forward if I don’t get into some of these great authors that I haven’t had time to start!!! The hardest part is like what Amy said – I feel like I’m missing out if I don’t have the latest and greatest!!!
I totally understand your funk! I moved from Ohio to Cali about 15 years ago b/c the winters depressed me worse than I already was. Granted, I’m back in the midwest now, but I’ve also got Prozac to help me.
Go, have a great re-charge and if I don’t tell you later, have a safe trip North and a great Christmas/New Years!!
Omaha NE!!! that is where I live!!!! Do you have family here?? Eep.
We have to meet up..if ya can find the time <3
I totally approve. You need to get away & totally check out (though it makes me sad for me). I didn’t do one NetGalley all last year. I might have missed out on having the newest, but it was quite liberating. I just have to stop buying. Take a break & let’s come back & READ ALL the BOOKS on our SHELVES.
Have a great holiday and new year! :D I almost made a tree like that this year, but I ran out of steam with decorating.
LOVE your tree! I’ve seen them & wanted to make one but I’m lazy. Maybe next year.
And I think I’m doing the Seriously Series challenge, too. I’m so bad about sticking with the challenges but there are a ton of series I need to finish!
I LOVE that idea. I am going to have to try that next semester. My roommate has a cat though, so that is the only reason I haven’t put up a Christmas tree yet.
Happy Holidays! :-)

And by that idea I meant the book tree! It’s cute!
have a nice bloggy break and vacation! And, good luck with tackling the TBR :)
I totally love that tree. Now that is a Christmas tree! :)
Have a great holiday and have lots of fun!
Enjoy your break! I haven’t talked to you in forever, but I miss you! Hugs!
Hugs! I know exactly how you feel, I am in that same funk myself and I am putting my blog on vacation as well. I need to refresh and recharge and need a break. I too am working diligently on tackling that Edelweiss and Netgalley pile so we will be doing it together. I won’t be doing as many tours and no challenges except for the TBR. So take care my friend and I will see you in the New Year!
But I want to buy books..but I should be strong like you ;)
I love the xmas book tree!
I love the tree.
I’m sad about your funk but I think you’re doing the right thing.
Sounds like it’s time to recenter.
Good luck!
*hugs*
Your tree turned out soo cute!
Needing a break is totally understandable, though I’ll miss you! I’m looking forward to your “retro-ish” reviews next year. I’m in the same boat – my shelves are full of books that need to get themselves read. That means less buying new and less NetGalley for me in 2013. Wishing you a very Merry Christmas!
I approve of your participation in Seriously Series.
We will miss you while you’re gone, but I hope you enjoy your holidays! :)
Grest tree! Enjoy your Holiday!
