Hi Y’all! It is November and that is always the month I am reminded that there are tons of things that I am thankful for in my life. This year November will be known as the Month of Thanks. I am going to do 30 days of Thanks here on Geeky Bloggers Book Blog! Each day I will highlight one author (and the book they wrote that moved me) and one blogger (and their awesomeness) that I am thankful for! These are not in any particular order and by no means is 30 going to cover everyone that I love. I am thankful for Kelle Hampton and her bluntness as she chronicled her journey (Bloom: Finding Beauty in the Unexpected–A Memoir) with her down syndrome daughter.  I had never been touched directly with knowing someone who learned their child was going to have Down Syndrome till a couple of years ago.  Bloom helped me understand my friend’s journey and more importantly educate me to some of the other things I needed to know. With that being said I want to point out the DSG (Down Syndrome Guild of Dallas) has Calendars for sale for 2013.  Not trying to sway you […]

These are not in any particular order and by no means is 30 going to cover everyone that I love. I am thankful to Christopher Farnsworth and his The President’s Vampire series!  This year brought Red, White, and Blood which was just amazing.  I think what I love most about this series is it combines two things I love: Paranormal and Thrillers.  Every book is fast paced, filled with great characters, and has a mystery that needs to be solved.  This is another series that I have started listening to in audiobook.  Bronson Pinchot does an excellent job of adding a layer of “oomph” to the story.  This is one series that I hope continues for a very long time. These are not in any particular order and by no means is 30 going to cover everyone that I love. I am thankful for Karin Slaughter and her newest entry in the Will Trent series: Criminal!  This story was important on many levels!  I believe that it was a pretty accurate portrayal of what it was like for women in the workforce (specifically the police force) in the 1970s and how far we have come (also a nod to just how much we have left to accomplish).  I also think it was a fantastic example of how to do split timeline storytelling.  Not everyone can pull it off but Karin did so with a masterful touch.  The story was just […]

I am thankful for Olivia Cunning and her Rock Stars!  This was my other naughty read for this year that absolutely made me turn red.  However it is the world and the characters that really make Olivia Cunning’s writing shine for me.  The world she has created for the Sinners is just as mesmerizing as any Urban Fantasy setting.  I really felt like I was getting to know what it was like for Rock Stars, their families, their friends, and the fans.  She manages to make you think that you are part of this richly built world and each book […]

I am thankful for Deborah Harkness and her ability to revive the epic read!  It has been a long time since I have craved what I call “EPIC” reads but her series is one that I count down too.  The huge size and the epic amount of information in both books so far has not been a deterrent at all.  In fact, I have left each book wanting more and wishing I could feed her chocolate and caffeine to write faster.  What she has done though is open me up to looking at books over 500 pages again.  I avoided […]
