DFWTea: A book club for romance, mystery, science fiction/fantasy readers and authors in the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex. We do a monthly tea at a tearoom around the metroplex, alternating east and west sides, as well as trips to Denton and Duncanville, plus our fabulous Holiday Tea. If you read and love to discuss your books and authors, this is a great group with lively on-line discussion as well as the opportunity to meet in person.
The book club meets on the first Monday at Stonebriar Barnes & Noble, first Tuesday for dinner and author call-in in Fort Worth, the second Saturday of each month for tea and on the third Wednesday for dinner and an author call-in. Members also attend many signings in the Dallas / Fort Worth area. New and returning members are always welcome!
This month at Stonebriar Barnes & Noble we discussed Heartsick by Chelsea Cain and Pies & Prejudice by Ellery Adams!
This was a big hit with everyone! Almost everybody who read it was already working on book 2 and/or were caught up with the series completely. Some key words used during our lively discussion:
- Crochet Hooks are now creepy
- Loved the mention of Clarice
- Gretchen is brilliantly scary
- Worst case of Stockholm syndrome ever, maybe?
- Want more of the newspaper reporter
- Will continue series
- Everything but skinning makes for still a scary thriller
- Don’t read at night!
Also a pretty big hit with the group. It was great to balance out something so dark with something more fun!
Some key words used during our lively discussion:
- Old people streaking–CLASSIC!
- The Bully (Loralyn) was really a good character that we are excited to see be Ella’s foil during the series
- Interested in seeing more of Ella’s magic history
- The Aunts stole the show
- Pies with emotions could be deadly (I think we were still thinking of Heartsick)
- Can’t wait for book 2!
- Will be willing to give more cozy mysteries a whirl!
Here are the books for Oct 1rst Bookclub:
“When a Chattan male falls in love, strike his heart with fire from above…”
They call him Lord Lyon, proud, determined– and cursed. He is in need of a bride, but if he falls in love, he dies. His fervent hope is that by marrying– and having a son–without love, perhaps he can break the curse’s chains forever.Enter beautiful Thea Martin–a duke’s headstrong, errant daughter and society’s most brilliant matchmaker. Years ago, she and Lyon were inseparable, until he disappeared from her life without a word. Now she is charged with finding Lyon’s bride–a woman he cannot love for a man Thea could love too well.
Vampire Nick Christos might have been born in the Middle Ages, but those days seem tame compared to the last eight years spent ruling the Supernatural Council. The only respite in his long days of governing is with his sweet neighbor Casey Meyers. Sure, he’s forced to take a cold shower after every encounter, but no way will he risk anything more with a human. Not with his blood thirsty ex on the prowl and out to ruin Nick’s life. But when said crazy ex shows up at the ball and flies her freak flag high, Nick has more to worry about than keeping his hands off his neighbor. He’ll have to stay closer than ever if he hopes to keep her alive, but will she want to leave him forever when she learns the truth?

Fun! I wish we had a book club like this in my area. You convinced me! I got a copy of Pies and Prejudice!
Oh I hope you enjoy it as much as my bookclub did! It was just a fun read and a great escape 🙂
I’m glad to hear that Pies & Prejudice was a big hit!
Very much so 🙂 I was glad it was a hit too!
How fun….I used to have a face to face book club and it fizzled out over a few years…..I need to move to Texas were people are serious book clubbers… And PS……Love the look AGAIN….:D
I changed it for the conference I have coming up. This will be my “non-holiday” look (so more my permanent one)
I don’t know… all I can think about is when I visited Dallas, you could SEE the air. Too humid! ACK! 😉
Oh but it sounds like a great bunch of peeps. Crochet hooks are creepy? Old people streaking? Hm… I might have to cut the air like butter and dream of going! 😀 Sounds like fun.
Dallas is fun but it is not as “clean air” as Colorado! Though you guys are practically in the sky so that might be part of it LOL
Our book club is a blast! I really love that I live in such a great book community!
Have you read the Bewitching Mystery series by Madelyn Alt? I think that might be considered a cozy.
I haven’t! I read her other series and loved it! You are right that is cozy 🙂
Pies sounds so cute. I wish I had more patience with cozies. They tend to feel very formulaic to me. Which bums me because I always love the covers.
Cozies don’t work for everyone. I love them but I am “quirky” LOL
I’m kinda jealous. I realllly want them to work for me too 😉
