Yesterday everyone was listing the books they were looking forward to getting this Spring. I always get into a lot of DIY around the house this time of year (Finishing floors and painting over the next few months) so for me it is almost all audiobooks. I decided to list a few that I am dying to get my hands on this spring:

Or not.

There is only one Rokesby Billie absolutely cannot tolerate, and that is George. He may be the eldest and heir to the earldom, but he’s arrogant and annoying, and she’s absolutely certain he detests her. Which is perfectly convenient, as she can’t stand the sight of him, either.

Forest of Ruin: Age of Legends Trilogy

This is a “because of the author” pick. Fantasy is always either a total hit or miss for me. I am excited to see which this is! It will be a library book though because I have learned to try hit/miss at the library first!

Louisa: The Extraordinary Life of Mrs. Adams

FACT: I love almost anything based on the life and times of early America. Our history is so violent , rich, and varied. This is one biography that I am counting down too!

51DQWJNOInL._SL300_

Written by: Louisa Thomas
Narrated by: Kirsten Potter
Length: 16 hrs and 46 mins
Unabridged Audiobook

Release Date:04-05-16
Publisher: Penguin Audio

An intimate portrait of Louisa Catherine Adams, the wife of John Quincy Adams, who witnessed firsthand the greatest transformations of her time.

Born in London to an American father and a British mother on the eve of the Revolutionary War, Louisa Catherine Johnson was raised in circumstances very different from the New England upbringing of future president John Quincy Adams, whose life had been dedicated to public service from the earliest age. And yet John Quincy fell in love with her almost despite himself. Their often tempestuous but deeply close marriage lasted half a century.

They lived in Prussia, Massachusetts, Washington, Russia, and England, at royal courts, on farms, in cities, and in the White House. Louisa saw more of Europe and America than nearly any other woman of her time. But wherever she lived, she was always pressing her nose against the glass, not quite sure whether she was looking in or out. The other members of the Adams family could take their identity for granted – they were Adamses; they were Americans – but she had to invent her own. The story of Louisa Catherine Adams is one of a woman who forged a sense of self. As the country her husband led found its place in the world, she found a voice. That voice resonates still.

In this deeply felt biography, the talented journalist and historian Louisa Thomas finally gives Louisa Catherine Adams’ full extraordinary life its due. An intimate portrait of a remarkable woman, a complicated marriage, and a pivotal historical moment, Louisa Thomas’ biography is a masterful work from an elegant storyteller.

Popular blogger Anna Newell Jones of AndThenWeSaved.com delivers this self-help manifesto that reveals how a “spending fast” will help you get on the road to living debt free.

In 2009, young photographer Anna Newell Jones was rapidly suffocating under the weight of too much debt. An inveterate spender, she was in way over her head, to the tune of almost $24,000. She knew her debt was only going to get worse if she didn’t take action, but she didn’t know where to look for help. On a whim, Anna decided to go on a spending fast – an idea she heard in passing but knew little about. Creating her own method, she learned what worked and what didn’t and wrote about it on her blog, AndThenWeSaved.com. Amazingly, Anna was able to eliminate all $23,605.10 of her debt in only 15 months! She was interviewed in Forbes, Self, Glamour, Good Housekeeping, and the Chicago Tribune.

Anna’s journey inspired people and showed them that they too could change the way they dealt with their own money woes. The Spender’s Guide to Debt-Free Living takes listeners through a detailed step-by-step plan on how to do a spending fast and get out of debt, including:

  • Creating a personalized Debt-Free Life Pledge.
  • Understanding where your money is going when you’re in debt and where it will come from to pay it off.
  • Learning why putting money into a savings account before (or while) paying off debt may not be the best idea for you.
  • Finding additional income sources and generating side gigs.
  • Reintegrating spending into your life once you’re out of debt so that you stay out of debt.

Filled with do-it-yourself ideas, insight from experts, and tons of motivational tips and real-life practical advice, The Spender’s Guide to Debt-Free Living proves that you don’t have to win the lottery or get a new job to change your life.

  1. Lea

I had pre-ordered the Austen audio because *heart eyes*. Louise looks really good too, will have to add that one!

  2. I haven’t read any audiobooks so far, but I do plan on giving them a try yet and they sound great for household chores like that. You got a great list of books here. I read the first Jane Yellowrock book and own the next 2 or 3 I think, but for some reason never got around to continuing the series, even though I did really enjoy the first book. I still have to read Kelley Armstrong her Forest of Ruin series. I love Kelley Armstrong her books, but haven’t gotten around to reading that series yet, although I do own the first two books. Those historical romances look great too!

  3. I have a mad love for Jane Austen. The Bridgertons book really was highly coveted by the librarians across the nation as one of their picks this month. I’m not a big fan of Regency (read them a long time ago), but I was telling a friend who is a fan about that book. She was so excited.

  4. The Jane Austen audiobook sounds AMAZING, I’m also intrigued be The Primrose Path and Louisa (turns out I like history as long as it’s not written like a history text book). I hope you get to meet David Tennant!

  5. I’ve yet to try a drama. I purchased the Audible version of Dracula, but haven’t listened to it yet. I need to do that soon. I love Kelley Armstrong, but her audiobooks have been very hit or miss for me. She has gotten some bad narrators on occasion. I’ve gotten really far behind on a lot of her stuff because I avoid her audiobooks. I need to try some of the others.

    • I have listened to a few “radio programs” that I have really enjoyed. We will see how this goes. KA –is always hit/miss for me so it will be a library book. πŸ™‚

  6. Faith Hunter is on my wish list. I’ve listen to two Austen books because of school (P&P and Northanger Abby (very similar characters and romance plot). I plan on trying a few of her other books (NEVER thought I’d say that LOL).

    • LOL—Oh you budding Austenite (I say that very tongue and cheek but I am glad that you will try more)! πŸ˜‰

I need to catch up on Faith Hunter before I buy that one (and maybe by then I can get it at the library) but it is my “catch up” series this year.

  7. I don’t do audio books, BUT when I was younger, I’d listen to radio drama with my granny so the Jane Austen one I could probably do. Slowly. Like 30 minutes a day.

  8. I am currently listening to Deceptions by Armstrong. I have the first ARC in that trilogy and I am planning to read it. You have some interesting picks up there. I hope you get to review some of them. My next listen is Marked in Flesh.

    • I liked Deceptions. I didn’t love book 2 as much but still looking forward to see how it all plays out. I am really curious to see how this new trilogy is πŸ™‚

    • One day I will meet him. He needs to come to a Dallas Comic Con for that to happen but maybe it will happen. He was so brilliant in Jessica Jones πŸ™‚

  9. Wow, you have some awesome ones on here. I’m interested in checking out The Spender’s Guide to Debt-Free Living. I need to try historical romances in audio…I tend to read them as ebooks because I like being able to search on Wikipedia or in the dictionary on my Kindle for terms/phrases I may be unfamiliar with. Maybe if I listen to one I’ve already read or do the Whispersync option. I think I would like them, I’m just afraid I would miss something if I don’t know what it means and I have to stop and go look it up.

    • You should follow Anna’s site: http://andthenwesaved.com/ (such good tips) πŸ™‚

If you want to try some that you already read–try the Sarah MacLean ones. Most libraries tend to have them on audio and they are good! I have to stop and do the look something up too. It is a bit harder in audio but luckily I can usually spell it close enough LOL

      • Thank you! I just signed up to follow her site. I love Sarah MacLean – I’ll have to try the audios. I work at the library, so I should be able to get any of the ones we have in our library system. πŸ™‚

  10. I’ve read the few books that I was looking forward to this year so I don’t really have anything on my list. But that’s good – I’m really trying to work on clearing out my older books before ALA.

    • Most of these will be library books (except for a few I already have on pre-order). I have a feeling BEA will bog me down in books for awhile LOL

  11. OMG, I must have the Austen collection with those narrators!!!!!!! That would be so cool if you could get David’s autograph, I would love to go to a comic con!!!!

      • Your such a bad influence, I had one credit left for the month and just used it to get this collection…hehehe. I can’t wait!!! I am sure it will make me melt too! πŸ™‚

        • I think it will be worth a credit. I ended up getting it on Audible instead–I looked at the price of the CD form and it was a little steep (aka $55)

          • Maybe you could print off a copy of the cover and if he is at Comic Con, get him to sign in and then but it in your scrapbook!! πŸ™‚ That is what I would do…lol.

Your right so worth a credit!

  12. I didn’t know that Kelley Armstrong had a new one coming out. Is that one part of a new series, a standalone, or one I just missed coming up in a series? I have been wanting to read the Faith Hunter series for a long time. How is it on audio? I don’t recognize the narrator.

    • HOLD UP: You haven’t listened to Kristine Hvam? OMG SHE IS FREAKING FANTASTIC πŸ™‚ Ok now that I got that out of my system–you should listen to those.

The KA is a new trilogy πŸ™‚
