WOW Y’all! My first post was Dec 8 2008 (unfortunately that post did not make the move from Blogger to WordPress)! That was when I switched from personal blogging to book blogging. Back then my blog was named Flea’s Book Blog. I didn’t know there was a book blogging community (that took over a year to find) and there really were no rules.Β  It is funny to think that I have been at this for 6 years now.

What has changed on this blog:

  • I have been through 3 names but Geeky Bloggers Book Blog has been around for 4 of the 6 years.
  • I went from Blogger to WordPress
  • I went from 72 posts the first year to over 250 average the last 3 years
  • This blog is now more than just counting the number of books I read in a year. Which leads too….
  • My original goal of 100 books in a year (which I didn’t make) has turned into 200 books in a year which I almost always make
  • About 3 years ago I switched over to mostly audiobooks because that is what I mostly read
  • 4 years ago I found NetGalley
  • This year I quit NetGalley
  • 3 years ago I found Edelweiss
  • This year I finally got all my reviews (for old books) into Edelweiss
  • My design has changed a few times including in the last month
  • My goal to have fun while reading has not changed.
  • I have gone from taking requests for reviews to not accepting review requests
  • I have gone from doing a blog tour every week (sometimes twice) to doing maybe 4 a year.
  • I hosted my first year long challenge in 2014 (Book Blog Walkers) and it was fun
  • I have made lots of good blogging neighbors that I work with on special events
  • I have made even more good reading friends that have influenced the direction of the content of the blog (the types of books I read)
  • I wrote a book (Haven’t edited it and don’t know that I will—but I did fulfill that dream of words on paper that my 14 year old self had)
  • I have seen lots of drama
  • I have seen a lot more goodwill and giving though
  • I have met lots of people at conferences (which I didn’t even know about pre-book blogging)
  • I have made a ton of friends
  • I found out that reading is no longer a solitary hobby!
  • I have found so many people, blogs, authors, narrators, and books to be thankful for.
  • I host 2 book clubs

What I see changing this coming year:

  • Blogging vacations–I did that this year due to a work project but it really energized me. I see taking 2 weeks off per quarter.
  • More reading off my TBR–I cut taking review requests. I fell back in love with the library. I found that I like reading stuff that has been out for years.
  • More re-reading–something I used to do all the time and did a bit of this year. I LOVE IT!
  • More variety–there will be crafting posts and fitness posts
  • Shorter reviews–I find I enjoy reading more when not pressured to write “brilliantly” about my thoughts. So Read It, Rate It, File It, and Done will probably become the normal around here.
  • Book Discussions–since I will be reading some rather older series there might be more book discussion posts
  • Challenges–I will be hosting 2 this year (with co-hosts). Book Blog Walkers will be back with a new name and co-host That’s What I’m Talking About. The Book Nympho and I are hosting a Snagged @ The Library reading challenge.

What won’t be changing:

  • Still co-hosting the Best of 2014 Audiobook Blog Hop with Hot Listens and The Book Nympho
  • I believe we are still doing The Sultry Listener Awards this coming year
  • 30 Days of Thanks will back in November

I love all of you! I know I would not have made 6 years without the friendships that I have formed. The love of reading is what started this and I am glad to say it is still alive and well in me. Thank you all for the friendship, support, laughs, good reads, and good listens. Here is to another year of fun!

MUAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That’s a long time for blogging, I’m glad you’re still around!! I think you’re right changing and re-inviting keeps you fresh.
I also thinking about shorter reviews, and I need to keep track of books I listened, I’m not very good at that, good thing for audible’s library..lol
I can’t wait to meet you soon πŸ™‚

I tell you once I took off the “have to write long reviews” thing–I don’t dread finishing books because I give myself the freedom to say “hey I liked it” or “hey I didn’t” without feeling like I had to write a bajillion reasons why πŸ™‚

I have no idea how long I’ve been following your blog, but I know I started with The Geeky Book Blogger. I’m not even sure how I found you, but I’m so glad that I did. I’ve only been blogging for about a year and reading and posting in blogs for a few years longer than that. It has made reading so much more enjoyable, and I didn’t think that was possible. I so can’t wait to meet you and everyone else at RT in May. I wish it would hurry up and get here. πŸ™‚

I am glad that we have become friends too! I can’t wait for May (oh my pocket book can wait)! I am chomping at the bit to sit with y’all and fangirl over everything πŸ™‚

I love your blog and am so glad I found it!!! I enjoyed your list and one of those things on their is on my in-my-head list as well – shorter reviews! I’m a pretty wordy person in general though so that one will be a challenge! I don’t say it enough but I love everything you do and I think your voice and personality shine through!!! πŸ™‚

    • Felicia S

I am not naturally wordy when writing so shorter reviews work for me. I was having a hard time with all my reviews sounding the same because I only know so many ways to say “I really enjoyed it” LOL πŸ™‚

Thank you for your very kind words *hugs*

Happy Blogoversary!!! I’m so glad you’re still blogging and still happy about it! I think you have the right attitude, sometimes we just need to change it up in order to remember what we love about book blogging. I also like the idea of planned blogcations. Usually mine are unplanned, which causes it’s own kind of panic and stress.

I think my Short & Tweet reviews helped save my blog, because I’m a reader. I don’t always take notes, and sometimes I just want to say, yes, read this book, or hell no, this book doth suck and just call it a day. πŸ™‚

I love your short and tweet reviews because they are straightforward πŸ™‚ I mean you either like something or not. I am a reader who reviews not the other way around LOL I don’t take notes either. Anything I highlight is just lines that make me laugh out loud πŸ™‚

    • Felicia S

It should always be fun. I think about 3 years ago I almost lost that but it should always be that way. Here is to many years of fun and foolery πŸ™‚

YaY! Congrats on #6! I’m so glad you blogged so we could meet! I’ve also gone through a few incarnations but none of the early ones show on my blog. LOL That is why my blog name and addy don’t match. I was too lazy to change it. πŸ™‚ I can’t wait to see more crafty stuff. I’m going to try to put more of that on my blog as well.

    *clink* Cheers!

I am thrilled we have met too πŸ™‚

I am not even sure what my 2nd name was but I am pretty sure is was something equally terrible LOL πŸ™‚ I know that for awhile my blog name and url did not match (that didn’t happen till I moved to wordpress) πŸ™‚

    • Felicia S

I remember that. I think I found you back in the days when Kaye actually did the 100 book challenge. Gosh that really dates me huh? LOL πŸ™‚

    • Felicia S

I am glad I am not the only one who has changed names. I used to have a personal blog called Flea’s Thoughts (that ran from a bad breakup in 2006 till 2008). I miss that sometimes but then I think my daily life is so not that exciting LOL πŸ™‚

I still feel the need to change my name (because it is freaking long) but then I think–“nah” and change the look instead πŸ™‚

Yeah! A huge congrats to you. I have been with you for almost three years now. My blog turned three in November. It is amazing how much you grow and change. I too cut off requests and do hardly any tours and I am rediscovering the library and reading more of what I want to, in fact that is my goal for 2015. I am so happy I found you on this journey. Here’s to another 6 years or so.

It is funny but I think changing with my moods has helped a ton. I loved blog tours when I used to do them, loved getting review books, etc. I think those are still fun things but not for me πŸ™‚ I think the one thing over the last two years I have learned is that it was ok to find fun in different areas. You guys were a big part of that and can’t thank you enough πŸ™‚
