Blogger Confession: Christmas Blogging Vacations Rock!

Blogger Confession: Christmas Blogging Vacations Rock!

I will admit that this year I really needed a break.  I ended up taking a longer one than originally planned (December 18th till Jan 3) but it was so worth it!  I feel rested, excited, and  ready to tackle 2013.  I did get quite a bit done over my vacation! I was able to get some really good books read, a brilliant slogan for my year thought up (OK not brilliant but humor me), organized ALL of my books online (paper, kindle, and audio), and started making my seriously series reads list (still a bit to go on that one).  So it was a very productive time off!

Things I did:

  • Changed my header and theme a bit!  I am going to be having fun with it all year-long but I think it is appropriate for my “year” theme.  I am not changing my button and my logo will be in all headers this year.
  • Started working on my personal blog which will go live towards the end of Jan.  This is actually where I started and it keeps me accountable for some life changes.  I was hoping to be ready to go by New Years but the holidays were BUSY!
  • Spent a ton of time with Family and Friends.
  • Had a blast in Nebraska!  I really digged my time there.
  • Ate a ton but maintained my weight.  Not sure how that happened but not questioning it.
  • Watched The Hobbit, Les Miserables, and Road Trip.
  • Listened to tons of Christmas Music and Classic Rock (AC/DC)
  • Cleared out my blog reader so I was ready to go today without any extra vacation pressure!

Books I read:

A Very Vampy Christmas (Love at Stake, #2.5)A Very Vampy Christmas by Kerrelyn Sparks

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Read for Fun (Kindle)
Overall Rating: 3.50
Story Rating: 3.50
Character Rating: 3.50

Quick Review (Holiday Break Read): This was just a cute little novella that I would suggest reading after Book 2 in the series. You will already be a bit attached to Maggie and it was fun to watch her fall in love 🙂

Vamps and the City (Love at Stake, #2)Vamps and the City by Kerrelyn Sparks

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Read for Fun (Kindle)
Overall Rating: 4.25
Story Rating: 4.00
Character Rating: 4.50

Quick Review (Holiday Break Read): I loved this book up till the very end (little disappointed with the ending but still not bad). I loved the whole hook on the reality TV in the Vampire World. It made for a fantastically fun story.

How to Marry a Millionaire Vampire (Love at Stake, #1)How to Marry a Millionaire Vampire by Kerrelyn Sparks

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Read for Fun! (kindle)
Overall Rating 4.25
Character Rating: 4.50
Story Rating: 4.00

Quick Review (Holiday Break Read): This was a fun beginning to the series. I think Kerrelyn did a great job of introducing her world (fun, fiesty, and misunderstood good vamps) without beating us over the head with too much information. I laughed quite a bit!

One Night with a Hero (The Hero, #2)One Night with a Hero by Laura Kaye

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Read for Fun (Kindle Purchase)
Overall Rating: 4.50
Story Rating: 4.25
Character Rating: 4.75

Just a stream of thoughts since I am on a reviewing break:

Hand down…this was just a fantastic read. I read it in just one setting and was impressed with just how well the story flowed.

I will admit that I liked this story even though I am not a huge fan of the oops I’m pregnant story lines. I think this one was done exceptionally well considering the topic. I think it was dealt with in a real and wonderful way. In other words, there was no quick fix and that rang true to me.

The characters are what shined though! I loved how each of them were able to overcome their issues and deal with each other exactly where they were. They both had some pretty big things to overcome AND those things were not rushed. LOVED THAT!

So what I am saying is: Read this book! You won’t be disappointed!

Animal Magnetism (Animal Magnetism, #1)Animal Magnetism by Jill Shalvis

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Listened for Fun (Audible Purchase)
Overall Rating: 4.50
Story Rating: 4.50
Character Rating: 4.50

Audio Rating: 4.50 (Karen White did a great job)

I am closing out the year with just some fun reads that won’t get reviewed in my normal fashion. However, I need to say that what people are saying about this series is so very true: Fun, Romantic, and HAWT! This was just an enjoyable listen all around 🙂

Slogan for the year: (Yes you can tell I am from Texas)

Blogger Confession: Christmas Blogging Vacations Rock!

Organized all my books in Goodreads!

The following are my books as they stand today!  I do have a checked shelf that is to verify that the ones I put in yesterday through the goodreads scanner went into the corrects shelves.  Otherwise, I am totally up to date!

Goodreads Bookshelves

Started my seriously series read page!

I will be dividing mine down into Series started this year, started pre-this year, and re-reads.  I will not get to all of them this year BUT I want a list of all the series I own.  I figure this will be a couple of years worth of reads for me 🙂

So what did you do over your Christmas Blogging Vacations?

  1. Now I feel like a total slacker. I planned to do a bunch of reading over the break but instead I sat around and did nothing. This is my lsst free week so maybe I can get some work in before school starts back. We’ll see.

  2. *is scairt of all your Goodreads shelves*
    *backs away slowly*
    *doesn’t make eye contact*
    *avoids any threatening gestures*
*breathes a sigh of relief when I get out of pouncing distance*

Dude. DUDE. You have a wicked crazy amount of books.

  3. You had a VERY productive Christmas break! Go you! Book organizing when you have those kinds of numbers can be so much work. 2013 is going to be the year for reading. I feel it in my bones. 🙂

  4. All that work you did, holy crap, was that really called a vacation? The blog looks great and I just love “TBR Tipping”. My little blog vacay was a forced one due to internet issues (I think we have WAY to many electronics in this house), but I think I have it fixed and will be able to get some blogging done.

    • YIKES! I was just in your area–I drove out to the shelter to see if any of the dogs should come home with me. I instead paid for the next two couples adoptions instead.

      • That was really good of you! I’ve been afraid to go anymore near there for fear of coming home with one. They spotlighted a lab on their website yesterday that I was just dying to go adopt, but my husband would kill me!

OMG, so much organization, can you come clean up mine for me now? LOL
I have the one book, How To Marry A Millionaire Vampire, glad you liked it! It’s been on my nook forever.
Missed you while you were “gone” but glad you had fun! I took a mini-break too. It was nice! (and I got through 4 harry potters!)

    • LOL I am hoping to never have to organize again! That was a whip and literally took about 3 weeks!!!! 🙂

      ((((((( huggles )))))))

Warning: Book 5 in Harry Potter is my favorite but Harry is SUPER WHINEY!

  6. I totally needed a break as well. I spent the time with my kids and husband. I did read three books and wrote a couple of reviews but wasn’t nearly as productive as you were. I am hearing the same thing throughout the blogosphere everyone is swearing to a book buying ban and tackling the TBR. Let’s hope we keep our resolve. Cannot wait to see what you have planned for 2013!

    • I hope you guys all had an excellent time together 🙂 I love family/friends during the holidays (gosh that makes it sound like I don’t like them the rest of the year LOL)

I have a budget goal this year so it will make my TBR goal a little easier to make 🙂

  7. I ate like crazy but maintained my weight too! Must be a Texas thing. LOL Yeah, right. I wish. I also skated almost every say, except for the rare rain day.

And OMG, can you please, please, please organize my TBR pile and my Kindle and my Goodreads. *puppy eyes* Kidding! Kind of. Sort of.

I’m loving the new background. You always have fun with your themes, and I think it’s a fun way to keep blogging exciting. Good job! 2013 is going to be awesome.

    • I think I drank away the calories. Skating would have been much healthier. I am waiting on my liver to recover LOL

PS. I love your new haircut 🙂 You need to update your avi to it!

PSS. I am totally sending you that magnet. I did buy it 🙂

  8. aurian

Wow Felicia! That was serious hard work! I hope you get to tackle that TBR, and I hope to do the same this year. I do love your new blog look!

  9. Wow! You did have a productive break. Much more than mine – I only read two books! Still, it was nice to take a break and catch my breath, though I missed my bloggy friends. It’s good to be back. 🙂 Happy reading in 2013!

  10. Felicia you got SO MUCH done!! That must feel so good! Also – NEBRASKA! My home state. I was there for both Thanksgiving and Christmas this year in Lincoln and Omaha. I’m glad you liked it.

    • It feels FABU!

I loved Omaha! We mostly hung out in the Market area (I was staying at the Embassy Suites) so lots of good food and entertainment. The fireworks were fun on New Years Eve and I loved the cold 🙂

  11. Dang–look at how neat all your GR books are now? I’m a slacker when it comes to sorting these. Love your superhero header! Bring it on, 2013!

  12. I went to your page and almost had a heart attack b/c it started to come in like your blog had a “page sitter” page on it – and then your new template came in and I was breathing again in about a minute! Phew… don’t do that to me girl!!! Color scheme AND graphics – I can’t take that much change at once!!! Okay, super girl was there awhile, I knew it was you b/c of her 😉

So glad your break was super productive and you’re raring to go! A new year just feels like a start over anyways but to do it cleanly? You’re so lucky to have a head start!!

I feel you on the cleaning the shelves – I’m doing that right now as a matter of fact. And I started my post for the Seriously Series Challenge and I think it’ll have to be a page b/c it’s getting big and crazy. I hadn’t realized how many series I stalled on. You’ll see 🙁

Great to have you back stalking… you’ll have to tell me how exactly you “cleaned out” your blog reader (which reader?)?

      • Too Funny! I think anywhere with Cows has that strategy (though I have never done that but snipe hunting I am all over)

Mine had to be a page too. I still have 20 pages on goodreads to go through before I am done. I think I am on C LOL I can’t wait to see your list!

I am glad to be back! 🙂

Oh I just use google reader so I marked them all as read.

  13. Loving the bloggy look! You look so great in that superhero outfit! Oh and don’t you know that holiday food has NO calories? Seriously, it’s like a law or something…

You rock hard and I suck. I took a break too and ended up getting pretty sick. I haven’t had a cold this bad in a long time. I swear I have the luck. LOL Next time I’m totally going to follow you around since you know how to vacay! 😀

PS… I so want that Shalvis book! … or maybe what is on that cover… can’t decide… 😉

    • AS an animal lover I insist that you make it a priority to read that Shalvis series. I started the 2nd one today. Big goofy dog and a little itty bitty kitten are in the first chapter….just saying 🙂

  14. OMG! TBR TIPPING?!?! I love it hard!!!!!!

Dude. JEALOUS that you maintained your weight… I seem to have gained 10 pounds that WILL NOT come back off. Gah!!!

You were so productive!!!! I was not so much… But hubs AND the girls were on vacay too. I’m much more productive when they’re all at school and work!!

    <3

    • I imagine having everyone home would be a nightmare for getting things done 🙂 The dogs at least somewhat listen to me or will accept chew sticks as “quiet time” bribes LOL

  15. Look at you all organized and stuff….:D Im working on my Goodreads piles right now too. Love the new background, the pink is so fun.

  16. Wow you did a lot and omg i love the tipping the TBR pile slogan..how many fancy drinks did that take?? So glad you had a blast in NE..bummer it was one of the coldest snaps we have had in a while. Don’t ya know Christmas food and goodies are calorie free?? glad you are back and refreshed!

    • It took about 2 shots and talking about cows LOL 🙂

I loved the cold and was excited that it never got above freezing while I was there. The friends from there I have weren’t so much excited. I was outside every chance I got LOL

  17. Look at you go, Felicia! Your Christmas break was very productive. *thumbs up* The only thing I really did over the vacation (besides the obvious family celebrations) was finish up my business website design.

  18. TBR TIPPING!!! I LOVE IT! I’m so glad you’re back Felicia! Back and organized and ready to go it seems. Yay you:) And I love the new look, the colors are gorgeous!

  19. First… congrats on the time off! Glad you enjoyed your vacation! Second… LOVE the new look! I need to hire you to update my blog! I look forward to finding out what you read and enjoy in 2013! Happy New Year!

  20. Yay….I’m so glad that the break helped to get you re-energized. I *ADORE* your new slogan…hehe! It’s going to be a GREAT 2013! Happy New Year, Felicia! smiles….

  21. WOW-Freaking-WOWswes! You got organized…down to the year.

I’m not going to be perfect, but I’m here to walk the walk with you. I need to take care of the physical ME this year & read the awesome that is on my shelves too. Shhh!!!! I’m TBR Tipping 😉

    • Me too! I did a bit of a backslide towards the end of the year and that was a bit disappointing. So I am starting back at the basics and getting in a mile a day. That should be a bit easy and I will increase as the year goes on!

      (((((((( hugs ))))))))))))
