Cerise Mar and her unruly clan are cash poor but land rich, claiming a large swathe of the Mire, the Edge swamplands between the state of Louisiana and the Weird. When her parents vanish, her clan's long-time rivals are suspect number one.

But all is not as it seems. Two nations of the Weird are waging a cold war fought by feint and espionage, and their conflict is about to spill over into the Edge---and Cerise's life. William, a changeling soldier who left behind the politics of the Weird, has been forced back into service to track down a rival nation's spymaster.

When William's and Cerise's missions lead them to cross paths, sparks fly---but they'll have to work together if they want to succeed…and survive.

First Thought when Finished: Bayou Moon by Ilona Andrews was great! I knew William’s story would be kick ass but really it was Cerise is the one who shined.

Story Thoughts: Love stories that give me a Hatfield and McCoys feel and this one nailed it! I have had this book since 2013 and was so glad to finally get to it. I am loving this series and there isn’t much that I can say about that hasn’t been said before. I will say that the thing I love most about it is the action. There is lots of it and it is kick ass!

Character Thoughts: I love William. Ok I loved him in the first book too but loved him even more here. What I loved most was that Cerise made him shine, her family made him crazy, and his predicament made him think fast on his feet. I did love Cerise too and her kooky family. She actually stole the show as far as I am concerned. She was smart, ballsy, and a wonderful leader. I am thrilled to the 2 rascals get their own books! I think those will be interesting.

Audio Thoughts:

Narrated By Renée Raudman / Length: 15 hrs and 32 mins

Again Renee did an excellent jobs. This are not short listens though so be in it for the long haul. They are worth every minute but at 15 hours it is a commitment!

Final Thoughts: Bring on Book 3!

  1. I think I have a copy of this. I promised I would read something by this author this year. I am going to start with her Magic Bites series, glad this series is just as strong! Happy weekend!

  2. Ooh, you’re just cranking these ones out, aren’t you? Did you work a lot again this week? LOL I’ve only begun to think about possibly starting this series soon, and here you are already halfway done. Glad to hear that you’re enjoying them! You’re getting my all psyched now. Must finish current listen first…

  3. So I really like this series too, though a certain horribly gory scene in this one freaked me out completely, haha. I was really excited to listen to the next one on audiobook, but then I found out it is the same narrator as Gunmetal Magic and I just don’t know if I can do it! I liked her fine, but her accent is so distinctive that I think I’ll have trouble separating the stories in my mind :(. Curious to see what you think though if you continue!

  4. Darn it! This is another series I’ve been wanting to dive into. Why are there so many? Must move this one up the list… as well as the other books since you love those characters getting their own book!

  5. I read this one a while back, so I don’t remember many details, I just remember I liked it a lot.
I’m competing for worst memory with Dory and I think I’m winning. 🙁

  6. I loved this one too. I really liked how the kids related to each other, and YES–I love Hatfield and McCoys-like stories! Isn’t this also the one where the science-y stuff starts getting weird (and by “weird” I mean cool)?

  7. That is sneaky you already read them! I am glad you love them Felicia, there is nothing out there to compare these books with.
