A Touch of Crimson

From the New York Times bestselling author of Bared to You...

Adrian Mitchell is a powerful angel leading an elite Special Ops unit of Seraphim. His task is to punish the Fallen-angels who have become vampires-and command a restless pack of indentured lycans. But Adrian has suffered his own punishment for becoming involved with mortals- losing the woman he loves again and again. Now, after nearly two hundred years, he has found her-Shadoe-her soul once more inhabiting a new body, with no memory of him. And this time, he won't let her go.

A Hunger so Wild

Elijah Reynolds is the most dominant of lycans, a rare Alpha whose skill on the hunt is surpassed only by his primal sexuality. When the lycans revolt due to the iron fist of angelic rule, he steps into command, becoming both enemy and coveted ally in the conflict between vampires and angels.

Vashti is the second most powerful vampire in the world, a lethal beauty with a path of devastation in her wake. Tasked with proposing an alliance between vampires and the lycans who killed her mate, Vash approaches Elijah, whose need to avenge a friend demands Vash’s death even as his passion demands her surrender.

Soon, their enmity erodes beneath an all-consuming desire. Elijah has never encountered a woman whose warrior spirit and fierce sexual appetite rivals his own, while Vash is faced with the one man strong enough to be her equal. But as war looms, each must decide where their loyalty lies—with their own kind or with the enemy lover they can no longer live without.

Review Updated after ReRead

I originally read this book in 2011 but I received the audiobook for review this month. Good thing too because I had forgotten the story. It was nice to revisit this world.

First Thought: It is rare when you can be sympathetic to both sides of the “fight” but that is the case with Touch of Crimson!

Story Talk: This world, these people, and their hopes/dreams/fights/stations really moved me. Touch of Crimson managed to bring you a world view from all sides without drawing away from the root story. In the end (no spoilers) you were left wanting more and very sympathetic to almost everyone’s plights.

Character Talk: I liked Adrian and Lindsey but never quite fell in love with them. It might be that I felt Adrian was a bit of a hypocrite most of the story and that the angels were a little harsh in general. They were my least favorite of the immortals and their treatment of the Lycans made me want to scream. That being said, Lindsey and Adrian had fantastic chemistry and their love story worked well.

Audio Thoughts:

Narrated by Luke Daniels/Running Time 9 hours 48 min

Luke Daniels is one of my favorite narrators. I don’t know how he does it but he manages to sound different in every series he narrates. He did a great job with A Touch of Crimson! I looked ahead and it looks like the next book is narrated by a woman. I think this might work well for this series!

Final Thought: The world building and character building were fantastic. I am thrilled that I have the 2nd one on audiobook sitting right next me!

First Thought When Finished: Are you FREAKING KIDDING ME?!?!?!?! Holy abrupt ending and cliffhanger. Plus there are only going to be 3 in the series. I am CRUSHED!

Straight from Sylvia’s Webpage: A Taste of Seduction-The final installment of the Renegade Angels trilogy.

Story Talk:

Paul straightened, raking Elijah with a sweeping glance. “I’ve never seen a lycan shift so fast.” “Betcha never seen a lycan who’s nailing a vampress either,” Vash said. “Syre’s second, no less. It’s a whole new world.”― Sylvia Day, A Hunger So Wild

I am going to admit that I marked the book down a bit because of the abrupt ending. I really enjoyed the story but I don’t deal well with abrupt/cliffhanger endings. A Hunger So Wild picked up right where A Touch of Crimson left off and continued on the story so very well that I was mesmerized from the beginning. This is my favorite world of Sylvia Day. I think she has built a wonderful world and the overall story arch is really hook worthy. I can’t wait to see how it ties all together.

Character Talk:

Strong Man: “There was nothing so attractive as a powerful, handsome, and self-assured man.”― Sylvia Day, A Hunger So Wild

Strong Woman: “Oh, I’ll fight you,” she promised, her eyes clear of shadows. “That’s the way I roll.”― Sylvia Day, A Hunger So Wild

I love the characters in this series. I really fell in love with Elijah in Touch of Crimson and even more so in A Hunger So Wild. I was surprised how much I loved Vash though. She was fun, smart, and conflicted. I loved that Elijah embraced all parts of her! (Not a spoiler this is a romance after all): I was sad when we didn’t get to read the ending coupling between them. That was probably smoking hot! You also get to see lots of the other characters from the series. I think it is because I am so in love with the characters that I am sad about there only being 3 books. I am excited about Syre’s book being next! He deserves an HEA!

Audio Talk:

Narrated by Rachel Vivette/Running Time 9 hours 4 minutes

I was concerned when they switched from Luke Daniels but Rachel hit it out of the freaking park. I thought her pacing, tone, emotions, and voices were just spot on. I am not sure if she is doing the 3rd book but I am going to search out more books that she narrates. This was just that good!

Final Thought: Sad there are only going to be 3 in the series. I might have to break down and read the novellas to get my fill!

  1. I’ve been wanting to read this series, but I do think I’ll wait for the 3rd to come out first. I hate abrupt endings even more so than cliffies. :p Oh and Luke Daniels… yep would love to listen to that one and so glad that the second one worked even though they switched narrators. Sweet!

  2. I don’t usually end up digging Angel storylines but this series sounds like it might buck the trend. I love it when the line between good & bad gets blurred enough that you like both sides.

Looking like I need to read more Sylvia.

  3. I read the Arc of A Touch of Crimson awhile ago, and I loved it. I am a sucker for angel PNRs, what can i say? I haven’t had the chance to read book 2 yet though (darn the massive TBR).. But, wait, it’s on audio?? Hmm, I may wait until book 3 comes out to finish the series together, I don’t always do so good with the cliffhangers and patience and all that… Book Savvy Babe

  4. Oh no, cliffy angst is the worst! Well if I do end up picking up this series, I’ll make sure to wait until the next book is out. Great reviews!

  5. Yeah, not the biggest fan of angels and definitely not a fan of abrupt endings or cliffhangers. I like enough tied up that I can wait for the next one but will be excited about reading it. Definitely going to check out this series (though, like Tara, I’m going to wait until the series is over!).
