Rescue My Heart by Jill Shavis
Narrator: Karen White
Length: 9 hrs and 16 mins

Date Read: April 2013

Genre: Contemporary, Romance

After a tragic stint in the National Guards, Adam Connelly returns to Idaho and to Belle Haven, the animal shelter he owns with his brothers. All Adam wants is to be alone. Then he opens the door to the pastโ€”the woman whose heart he once broke. Still gorgeous, still tough-as-nails, but this time, unusually vulnerable.

Holly Reid learned the hard way to never depend on a man for anything. Now, of all men, itโ€™s the last one she wants to see, and the only one she needs. Her father has gone missing in the Bitterroot Mountains and she could use someone with tracking skills to help find him.

For Holly and Adam, each with their ghosts, a trek this desperate, this unpredictable, and this intimate, will have its share of risksโ€”including opening their hearts one more time.

My Thoughts on

Read from April 27 to 28, 2013

Read/Listened for Fun/Dewey’s Read-a-Thon (Paperback/Audio borrowed from a friend)
Overall Rating: 4.25
Story Rating: 4.25
Character Rating: 4.25

Audio Rating: 4.50 (not part of the overall rating)

First Thought when Finished: Rescue My Heart was a super enjoyable read that touched my animal loving heart!

Story Thoughts: I dare you not to fall in love with this story if you are an a) animal lover or b)love military men. Rescue My Heart just had all those elements that make you swoon and root for a happy ending. I have loved every book in this series and this one certainly did measure up!

Character Thoughts: Adam is one of those leading men that you just want to bear hug one minute and then tackle kiss the next. He is a retired soldier with PTSD who works with rescue animals. Plus, his chemistry with Holly is off the charts. They just work together. Even though he broke her heart, I think they are better as a couple now then they would have been when younger. I pretty much just adored them.

Audio Thoughts:

Narrated By Karen White / Length: 9 hrs and 16 mins

Karen does a fantastic job with the Animal Magnetism series. Even though I initially read the book, I had to go back and listen to it on audio. The pacing, emotion, and styling by Karen is just perfectly suited for Jill Shavis’ writing.

Final Thoughts: I have really loved every single book in this series! Highly Recommend!

  1. This sounds like such a fun book (series) how can you not grow fond of peeps who love animals. I love that the chemistry is hot and Adam sounds wonderful! Great review!

  2. I am a huge animal lover but I shy away from animal books because when an animal dies it shatters my heart, I would only read this if it was happy with no animals dying.

  3. Animals and military men in one book Felicia! WIN!!!!!!! Plus, I love Jill Shalvis, so really this series was meant for me. I grabbed a copy (not sure if it’s this one though) at BEA, so I will be starting this series soon for sure. Cannot. Wait.
