Clare's been hired to create a gourmet coffee and dessert bar for a New York wedding to be held at the world-renowned Metropolitan Museum of Art. Famous chefs will be there, celebrities, members of the press, well-known politicians - so why isn't she thrilled to have this chance to shine? Because the person tying the knot is Matteo Allegro, her ex-husband and current business partner. And while Clare has no plans to ever marry Matt again, she's afraid he's making a terrible mistake.

The bride-to-be is Trend magazine editor Breanne Summour. Beautiful, wealthy, and sophisticated, the snarky tastemaker has never been a low maintenance kind of gal, and now she's in full-blown bridezilla mode. The only way that Clare can possibly deal with her is to put her misgivings aside and focus on buisness. But as a successful amateur sleuth, murder is Clare's business, too. And when fatal accidents begin befalling people close to Breanne, Clare becomes suspicious. Is someone trying to sabotage the wedding? To kill Breanne? Between persuading a sexy Italian sculptor into lending her a one-of-a-kind fountain and roasting some of the rarest coffee beans on Earth, Clare starts to investigate. But what she unveils, amid melted chocolate and steaming mochaccinos, may just get her burned....

My Thoughts on

Listened for Fun (Libray Book)
Overall Rating: 4.00
Story Rating: 3.75
Character Rating: 4.25

Audio Rating: 4.00 (not part of the overall rating)

First Thought when Finished: I am totally reading these out of order but they are each so much fun!

Story Thoughts: Fun, Spunky, Engaging, and a little sexy are words that I would use to describe Espresso Shot. I just flat out have a fun time while listening to the series. Espresso Shot wasn’t my favorite in the series (not a huge fan of M) but it was still a fun mystery to crack.

Character Thoughts: Clare is really a fun leading lady. She is a bit of a spitfire and quite the amateur sleuth. She also realizes that she is not a cop and that makes me like her more. Her group of people are also quite a hoot!

Audio Thoughts:

Narrated By Rebecca Gibel / Length: 11 hrs and 29 mins

Rebecca Gibel did an excellent job with narration, pacing, and characterization. She is perfect for this little cozy mystery.

Final Thoughts: I have really enjoyed the ones of this series that I have read! No need to read them in order because each mystery stands alone.

  1. I’m so far behind in this series. I think I read the first three (or four?) but I really enjoyed them! They’re cute and fun and quick reads (or listens, as the case may be). Next time I’m at the library, I’m picking up whatever they have there!

  2. Ooh this sounds good Flea, I am listening to my first audio book …Enchanted on my smartphone and I like it. So I became an affiliate for audible.com and hopefully can earn more! Adding this to my wishlist..now I know what you mean about credits!

    • YEAH! I am so glad that you started with a good one πŸ™‚ I always say that a good narrator adds to the story especially now that they use trained actors. Many of the narrators now are from the theater πŸ™‚

  3. I keep saying this but I want to get back to this series. I had so much fun with the first book. I was totally craving coffee everythime I read it. I am glad you can read it out of order. I really should look into some audios of it!

    • They are pretty good in a cozy mystery kind of way. They always make me crave something sweet LOL I am not a coffee fan so I concentrate on what she puts in the drinks.

  4. This is one of the few cozy mystery series that does not tempt me. But reading out of order, you are missing out on the personal lives development. That is one of the things I enjoy a lot about cozy mysteries.

    • I miss a little with the relationship arc but this series goes with it so slowly that it is easy to fill in. I just get the ones that are available from the library so I am limited in my choices πŸ™‚

  5. I love that you’re reading these out of order Felicia! I did that with Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Hunter series. I started with 15 (Ash!!!!) and then bounced around all over the place and had a blast doing it. It kept things interesting. These sound like such fun books and I know they’re right up my MIL’s alley, so I’m going to see if she’s read them yet:)
