Deadly Sting by Jennifer Estep
Narrator: Lauren Fortgang
Date Read: March 2013
Genre: Fantasy, Urban Fantasy

More Information:Red is definitely my color. Good thing, because in my line of work, I end up wearing it a lot.
Most people shy away from blood, but for an assassin like me— Gin Blanco, aka the Spider—it’s just part of the job. Still, it would be nice to get a night off, especially when I’m attending the biggest gala event of the summer at Briartop, Ashland’s fanciest art museum. But it’s just not meant to be. For this exhibition of my late nemesis’s priceless possessions is not only the place to be seen, but the place to be robbed and taken hostage at gunpoint as well. No sooner did I get my champagne than a bunch of the unluckiest thieves ever burst into the museum and started looting the place.
Unlucky why? Because I brought along a couple of knives in addition to my killer dress. Add these to my Ice and Stone magic, and nothing makes me happier than showing the bad guys why red really is my color.

First thought when finished: Gin manages to get herself into some of the stickiest situations and it is so darn fun to watch her get out!
“Have I ever told you how scary it is that you think of heels in terms of their possible shiv potential?” ― Jennifer Estep, Deadly Sting
Story Thoughts: I really enjoyed this one night heist story! It was fun and so typically “The Spider”. It was fun watching Gin be in her element and yet not. That dress just cracked me up. I thought this was a good book to follow up the emotional killer that was Widow’s Web. It brought the fun, action, and suspense that we love in this series while not ignoring the last book.Yet it gave our emotions a little healing time which I think we all needed.
Character Thoughts: I will admit that there is some redeeming that still needs to be done with Owen in my eyes. However, in this one he did good! Gin was terrific as always and Finn stole the show. Seriously, I have a major crush on Finn and could wax on for hours about him. He just freaking rocks! I was happy to see the whole team there and can’t wait till the next installment!
Audio Thoughts:
Narrated by Lauren Fortgang/Running Time 11 hrs and 8 mins
I am just going to say it: YOU SHOULD BE LISTENING TO THIS SERIES IN AUDIOBOOK! It is probably one of the consistent and well done audio series out there! That is my PSA for today!
Final Thoughts: I wonder if Jennifer would write faster if we plied her with chocolate and coffee?

I’m ignoring the stuff about Owen. I’m just saying 🙁
I do think that heels should be considered for their shiv appeal 😉
I wish I would have listened to this series on audio. I bet it ridiculously entertaining. I enjoyed this installment, ESEPCIALLY the statue scene!
I liked this book, but it was not my favorite in the series, mostly because of Owen, he was so good and very certain of their relationship, even when Gin wasn’t. Guess I just have to wait for the next book to know if he gets better.
Hmmmm, so Im thinking while I wont read this series, I would like to wear that dress….LOL. But I dont think I can pull off the tattered ripped look!
That dress was awesome! But be careful because it is also deadly LOL
I just skimmed the review because I haven’t read it yet…. which makes me really sad because that means I’m gonna miss the last discussion with Brianna and Smash. Oh well… I’m loving this series so far and on a side note, I’m really glad that there is still hope for Owen. *sigh*
This is such a good series but I imagine reading them back to back can be daunting! YEP on Owen 🙂
This is another series where I have book one in my tbr pile..LOL I love when characters get themselves in fixes and have to dig their way out. I am glad that at book eight this is still entertaining you:)
Still strong on Book 8! I think it has stayed that way because she has grown the characters. They aren’t the same as when the series started.
I agree, but Owen does still need to do a bit of groveling… or just come sidle up to me… 😉
Anyhoo…
I really need to try this one on audio. I bet I would love them!
YES HE DOES! Though the thing at the end gave me hope or at least enough that he is now “Owen the slight Ass” 🙂
Check out my giveaway today!
Estep is not for me but I am glad you enjoy them
🙂 It is one that had a definite audience and probably not for everyone.
I listened and read this one as I couldn’t put it down for long. I really liked the audio. One of the better ones I’ve listened to in my limited audio book experience. I was still frustrated with Owen. Sure, he showed a little, but just not enough for me. I still wanted to slap him. Gotta defend my girl, ya know? Finn? Who could top Finn?
Owen has A LOT of groveling to do. I mean, I know that Gin made some decisions but quite frankly everything she has done has been within character. He, on the other hand, total hypocrite. He did earn some brownie points at the end.
Wow. What a great review!!
It was a fun read! 🙂
I like how you point out that she’s in her element but not. That dress really does it for her, setting her off-balance (not to mention Owen!). AND I LOVE FINN!
Finn is DA MAN! I mean seriously Bria is the luckiest freaking fictional girl EVAH!
I read this one through Edelweiss too and I grabbed it on audio when it released. I plan to listen to it before the next one comes out. This is one of my favorite series on audio.
Me too! They really shine in audio 🙂
love this series! Given, I have read the physical books, I have yet to listen on audio. I haven’t had the best luck picking up audio halfway through a series either, the voices always sounds so much different than what I had imagined. I’m very curious to see what happens w/ Owen in the next book, I’m pretty disappointed in him..
I do think it is harder to pick up a series half way through on audio. Things don’t always sound like you had them in your head. 🙂
