Audiobook Review: At Peace by Kristen AshleyAt Peace by Kristen Ashley

Date Read: September 2015

Violet Winters once had it all but lost it when her husband was murdered by a criminal madman. During a cold winter night Violet has to leave her warm bed to tell her neighbor to turn the music down. And that’s when she meets sinister, scarred, scarily attractive security specialist, Joe Callahan.

She wants to deny it, but Violet can’t beat back the hunger she feels for Joe so she gives in again and again. Feeling it himself, Joe feeds Vi’s hunger, breaking his own rules to keep her in his bed.

Even though Violet had only one man in her life, she’s sure Joe is giving her the signals and Vi decides she’s ready to take a second chance at life and, maybe, love. But Violet doesn’t know the dark secrets in Joe’s past, secrets so soul-wrenching, they’ve drained him dry. With nothing left to give, Joe’s determined to live his life alone and he breaks Violet’s heart.

Crushed by Joe’s betrayal, Violet comes to terms with the fact that, no matter what signals he gave, Joe was not theirs to win. But Violet’s husband’s murderer is obsessed with her and heartbreak again haunts the door of the Winters home. When it does Joe is forced to face the knowledge that he can’t fight Violet’s pull, she’s under his skin and filled him full to bursting.

Joe needs to win her back and put his life on the line to keep Violet safe. But, having had it all once, can Violet endure losing Joe?

Read It Rate It Thoughts: Freaking love triangles–I hate them and At Peace was a perfect example of why: it kept me from falling in love with Joe and quite frankly Mike was the better guy (not for her–I get that but overall). Even after I read Mike’s story (yep already through the entire Burg)–I was still pissed that the whole Violet/Mike thing was brought up. So while after that last book I loved Joe/Violet together, I didn’t fall in love with them during their book.

Audio Thoughts

Narrated By Olivia Porter / Length: 23 hrs and 9 mins

The narrator changed from the first book and this one was slightly better (as in didn’t make me want to chunk my phone across the room) but it was still bad. The narrator changes again in the next one I am really hoping it is better as I get through audiobooks faster cause I can listen while doing other things. Skip the audio on this one–it just wasn’t worth it.

    • Here is the order in which I like the series: Chaos, Rock Chicks, Colorado Mountain, The “Burg, Mystery Men, Unfinished Heroes. She has crack like reading though so once you go down you probably won’t come back up LOL

    • This was the only book in the series to have a love triangle and Mike gets his own HEA in Book 4 or 5. It was still good and by the epilogue in the last book I loved them 🙂

  1. I can handle the love triangles okay but didn’t know this one had that element. I have this one on my Kindle but haven’t read it, yet. Is this part of The Burg series? I can’t remember, it’s been so long since I bought it. lol

  2. I am not sure that I would like the change in narrator from book to book. I tend to like to get cozy with one, but if the narrator wasn’t working, then it is probably for the better.
