Never Seduce a Scot by Maya Banks
Narrator: Kirsten Potter
Date Read: September 25th 2012
Genre: Historical, Romance

More Information:Maya Banks, the New York Times bestselling author of erotic romance, romantic suspense, and contemporary romance, has captivated readers with her steamy Scottish historical novels, perfect for fans of Julie Garwood. Never Seduce a Scot features a remarkable woman whose rare gift teaches a gruff Scottish warrior how to listen with his heart.
Eveline Armstrong is fiercely loved and protected by her powerful clan, but outsiders consider her “touched.” Beautiful, fey, with a level, intent gaze, she doesn’t speak. No one, not even her family, knows that she cannot hear. Content with her life of seclusion, Eveline has taught herself to read lips and allows the outside world to view her as daft. But when an arranged marriage into a rival clan makes Graeme Montgomery her husband, Eveline accepts her duty—unprepared for the delights to come. Graeme is a rugged warrior with a voice so deep and powerful that his new bride can hear it, and hands and kisses so tender and skilled that he stirs her deepest passions.
Graeme is intrigued by the mysterious Eveline, whose silent lips are ripe with temptation and whose bright, intelligent eyes can see into his soul. As intimacy deepens, he learns her secret. But when clan rivalries and dark deeds threaten the wife he has only begun to cherish, the Scottish warrior will move heaven and earth to save the woman who has awakened his heart to the beautiful song of a rare and magical love.

First Thought When Finished: I loved this book from beginning to end. Leading ladies with fire and sass are always my favorite!
Story Thoughts: Here is what you need to know about me–I am a sucker for romances that involve unusual leading characters. In this case, Eveline is deaf. I love how this plays into the story and how she uses it to her advantage. The story never tries to discount her disability and instead weaves it into every aspect of her daily life. The romance plays out in a similar fashion–slowly and with intent. Even though this is an arranged marriage story, it is one that ends up getting you in the heart!
Character Thoughts: I love Eveline. For a woman of her time she was resourceful and smart. She does honor her place in her men’s (father and husband) life but she works hard to make her own spot within those constraints. Graeme is a man of his word and very perceptive (except when he isn’t –freaking males). I loved how they fell in love, understood each other, and had a really awesome declaration of love scene. I laughed out loud and cried happy tears!
Audio Thoughts:
Narrated by Kirsten Potter /Running Time 10 hrs and 10 mins
I am going to start with I normally LOVE Kirsten Potter. Y’all have seen me gush about the Dianne Duvall series and how I have to listen to it on audio. Same goes with the Lisa Gardner series so I love Kirsten on a whole. I don’t know what it was about this book that didn’t wow me in audio form. Kirsten did her normal awesome job with pacing and emotions. I think I just didn’t connect to the character voices 🙁 It happens occasionally though luckily not very often with my favorite narrators.
Final Thoughts: Really love this series! I think Maya writes excellent historicals and if you haven’t given them a whirl, you should!

I recently read her first Highlander book, and immediately ordered them all. I absolutely loved it. Looking forward to reading this one as well. Great review Felicia, thank you!
I think you will enjoy them all. I can’t wait for the 3rd book in this trilogy to get here. I am counting down!
This sounds delicious and I know you’ve for Melissa reading Banks..i think I need to try her books and maybe this is a good place to start!
This is a new trilogy and not connected to the other one so yep–good starting place. Of course, Mel started with book 2 (Silly girl) 🙂
I was wondering if any of my friends read Banks… well this answers that question! I’m a sucker for unconventional leading ladies, too (my fave being Bride from Night Play by Kenyon). I think I’m going to add this one to my pile as good one to sample of her reading, esp. b/c you gave the story a big fat 5!!!
I love Maya Banks! Actually her KGI series is where I fell in love. It is one of my favorite Romantic Suspense series —EVER!
I love Bride too! In fact recently I read a K. Sparks book with a leading lady a lot like her 🙂
I am so flag that the book was full of awesome. But I can’t believe that it lacked in the audio or an Audie Award. That’s a shame.
Kristen is a great narrator but I think it is just this book and narration period. That being said, Kristen is my pick to win because she did 3 other books last year that were AWESOME!
Yes, I MUST have this book. After reading #2 (yes, I’m still blaming you for that… it’s a good thing… lol) I want to go back and read this one. LOVED the 2nd and I’m wanting. them. all. 😀
Oh you will love this one! I am so glad that you are liking them!
The story and characters sound fantastic! Too bad the narrator didn’t wow you as much as in the past, but you’re right sometimes the reader is just not a match.
I think that was the case with this because in everything else I have heard Kristen do she was AWESOME!
I think I need to nudge this one up my TBR list!
Like the other series, I think these would work for escapism reads 🙂
You go girl 🙂
Loved this one!
While I didn’t LOVE is quite as much as you… I still really enjoyed it and will definitely be reading more of this series!
I love that you took a chance and dipped your toe in. I figure a 3 from you is a win! (like me with novellas) 🙂 WOOT WOOT!
YAY! Wasn’t this great? I luuved it. It was my top listen for 2012. It seems Kristen Potter can deliver the good every time! She’s awesome.
Great review 🙂
I did enjoy it! Kristen is one of my favorite narrators–I really loved her in the Jill Shavis series 🙂
