Love takes the stage...

Elise deVries is not what she seems. By night, the actress captivates London theatergoers with her chameleon-like ability to slip inside her characters. By day, she uses her mastery of disguise to work undercover for Chegarre & Associates, an elite agency known for its discreet handling of indelicate scandals. But when Elise is tasked with locating the missing Duke of Ashland, she finds herself center stage in a real-life drama.

Noah Ellery left the glamour of the London aristocracy to pursue a simpler life in the country. He's managed to avoid any complications or entanglements—that is, until he lays eyes on Elise and realizes there's more to this beautiful woman than meets the eye. But when Elise reveals her real identity—and her true feelings for him—the runaway duke must confront the past he left behind . . . to keep the woman he loves forever.

My-Thoughts

Listened for Fun (Audible)
Overall Rating: 4.75
Character Rating: 5.00
Story Rating: 4.50

Audio Rating: 4.50 (not part of the overall rating)

Quick Thoughts: At first I thought I might have problems with Elise and Noah because ultimately she was hiding something from him BUT their chemistry just blew that away. I had so much fun listening to this story. They were both something of square pegs that refused to fit and preferred it that way. I think that is why they worked so well. They got into situations that only the two of them could have and once their communication opened up it was a delight.

Audio Thoughts:

Narrated By Ashford McNab / Length: 11 hrs and 50 mins

Ashford brought both Elise and Noah to life. I totally got lost in the story and fell in love right along with both of them. Which for an unusual character like Noah, you had to find the right voice. I felt this was an excellent match!!

  1. I haven’t read a book by Kelly Bowen yet but it sounds like I might need to! 🙂 I love when you think something isn’t going to work for you but you trust the author anyway and it ends up being fantastic. I just checked my GoodReads shelf and it looks like I’ve got the first book in another of her series. Perhaps I’ll add it to July’s TBR.

  2. You know the CHARACTER RATING just jumped out at me. I like that you have that. I’ve been doing a Favorite and Least Favorite character section on my some of my reviews and now I’m guessing it was no doubt subconsciously because of your influence. So thank YOU! And I hope you don’t mind my adopting a form of your style. =)

    • I wish more people did it. I can read a book with excellent characters but maybe the story isn’t as good. I have a harder time with the reverse 🙂

      • That’s how I felt Cream of The Crop (Hudson Valley #2) by Alice Clayton was. I just wasn’t super affected by the story itself but I loved the characters, and Olivia Song narrated the story really well. I was let down that the male narrator only did the epilogue, but Deacon Lee is a solid narrator, too.
