Book Blogger Hop — June 25, 2010
It’s Friday! It’s hot outside! It’s officially time for the Book Blogger Hop, hosted as always by Jennifer over at Crazy-for-Books. If you’re hopping in for the first time — welcome, grab a lemonade, and I promise to come visit your blog this weekend.
This Week’s Question
“Which book character would you most like to be friends with?”
A question with TEETH. I love it. Let me think.
My Answer
I went back and forth on this for an embarrassingly long time. My first instinct was to pick a swoony romance hero, but the question said friends, not “fictional men I would like to make poor decisions with,” so I had to actually engage with the prompt. Rude.
After much deliberation: I want to be friends with the chatty, slightly chaotic best-friend-character from my favorite contemporary YA series. You know the type — the one who shows up at your house with snacks at midnight, has zero sense of personal space, gives unsolicited (but accurate) advice about your love life, and would absolutely help you bury a body if you needed her to. Loyal. Funny. A menace in the best way.
I am thinking specifically of someone like:
- The wisecracking sidekick who roasts the protagonist for 200 pages but then gets one really sincere chapter that wrecks you
- The friend who organizes the group trip and brings color-coded itineraries
- The cousin who shows up at the wedding and saves the day
I want all of them. I want a friend group made up of book sidekicks. We would be unstoppable.
Honorable Mentions
- Hermione Granger (I would learn so much, I would also be exhausted)
- Anne Shirley (we would absolutely kindred-spirit our way through any crisis)
- Any of the Weasleys, but especially Mrs. Weasley, because I want to be fed
Your Turn
